So I've been training for a little over a month now, and I feel like I'm making good progress. I feel a lot more comfortable with the various bags, but I still feel a little awkward shadow boxing. I can stand there and throw, but I have a feeling that I should be moving more. I can side-step, cut out at an angle, shuffle forward while jabbing, shuffle 1-2, and pivot between combinations. I also find myself planting my feet very often.

This alone won't make me slick. What other movements can I add to my shadow boxing and heavy bag routines?

    P.S. I'm a southpaw

making angles, moving backwards under imaginary punches (ducking and slipping), then do a side step at the ropes, moving forward making angles / body movement to keep head of the attack line of the opponent, side-to-side with various feint (useful when you leading on points and just want to make the other guy work)

Thanks for the advice! Can you explain what you mean by "keep head of the attack line?" I know as a southpaw I want to keep my lead foot outside of his to fire straights, but beyond that I don't understand the principle.

    Small steps!!!

Make em much smaller then you will be faster more fluid more dynamic.

    Slip! Duck! Weave! etc

The attack line is an imaginary line the opponents punch travels from its starting position to where your head was last. (hopefully youve moved it in time)

Get it out of the way in a fast and safe manor!

Yes especially as a southpaw stay away from his right side that straight right is now his money punch as is your rear straight left.
