Hello, this forum is great for a COMPLETE beginner (nubee) like myself! Yesterday, I bought my first heavy bag. I got the biggest bag the store had- a 100 lb. bag because I weigh 400 lbs. and think I can punch hard. I plan to hang the bag tonight. I had already gotten hand wraps for my hands, but the guy at the store suggested that I just buy a pair of "Valeo Leather Bag Gloves with Wrist Wraps" - so, I did. Being completely new to this I still have some questions. Do I still need to wrap my hands when I use the Valeo gloves or do I only wear just the Valeo gloves? Are these gloves any good or should I just use hand wraps and the gloves that came with the bag? Should I get a different pair of gloves for heavy bag work? Thanks for your help!
I would get a decent pair of new gloves and definitely wrap the hands. Don't go to cheap with the gloves because price usually = quality for them.
it also depends what kind of bag u bought, the old traditional bag-if the gloves look like boxing gloves and u can fit wraps under them it would be wise to,some bag gloves look like ufc gloves which wont have room for wraps if you hadnt already bought a bag i would recomend a water bag they are alot easier on your joints and hands i have a 100 pound water bag that i hung in my garage for a year so i added 2 or so gallons of antifreeze but now i got a house so its in the basement any ways ther just as good and durable and alot better on yer body-cheap too make sure u hang yer bag high enough to connect solid at yer face level -a common mistake is always punching chest level
i herd if you use wraps your gloves well last longer!! cause if you don't the inside of your gloves well rip little by little... is it true?
you 400lbs if you trying to lose weight I suggest you try running first do alot of running to build up your basic fitness and losr some weight then biring bag work into it after a while and maybe then some floor excerices and stuff thats the order I would do it in if I was out of shape
I don't recommend running for anybody that's 400 lbs. I would stick to hitting a bag, swimming and riding a bike. The impact on your knee's will destroy them in a short period of time.
Thats a good point - I would do running - but then again I am not 400 LBS maybe walking and build up to running My thinking is just do something like that to build up your basic fitness and get some weight off then move on to other excerices as well
Running is a big no no at that weight, that's how many people willing to lose weight end up ****ed up, they will injure themselves badly. I think heavybag workout is fine, he'll get his heart rate up and his metabolism going and that's what matters. For weight loss the more important thing right now is the diet that accompanies it.
