Hey everyone, as you can tell I am a new member to this forum. I am 19, weigh 230lbs~ and am 6'4-5" - I also live in England.

I'm a gym regular and have built myself up from around 13stone to what I am now. Been wanting to get into the boxing scene for a while but I have been training my strength in the gym for quite a few months now but only got back into it 1 month ago after an injury.

Mainly been doing Deadlifts, Squats, Bench Press, Military Press, Rows with the occasional dips/weighted situps/chin ups.

I know for a fact my fitness isn't that good really and that needs sorting out. I have been looking for a local boxing gym where I can get boxing training but the only place local just takes in already trained amateurs.

I'd like to train to be a boxer, but don't really know where to begin. I feel having a proper boxing trainer train me up with the stance/fitness/punches/dodges etc etc would benefit me a lot as I don't want to start training myself and find out I have been doing it wrong.

Any advice will be greatfully accepted.

    Regards, Patrick :)

You were 13 stone 6 foot 5! If you could get down to that weight again you would have a massive reach advantage , some advice before you start training at a gym get up to a relatively high level of fitness , running , crosstraining , sprints , Learn to skip and start doing pull ups.
Another piece of advice is , Don't start doing any punching until your trainer shows you how developing bad habits isn't a good idea . So until you start going to a gym just work on your Fitness
    All the best:good
Also where do you live (might know a gym)

    Cheers.

At the moment I am doing a strength based routine and throw in some cycling at the end of the workout. Pullups I am useless but I am still trying lol!

Yeah well I was 13st when I was about 6'2-3" now I weigh in at 230lbs still reasonably slender to look at though. I would bring that weight down by doing more fitness work however.

Live in Peterborough, England. There is a gym called Paulys Gym but it says it only takes amateurs and above. My current gym now has a boxing ring and heavy bags but no trainer.

I have just spoken to my mate who goes to the gym I mentioned and they do now take on anyone. From what I understood of what he said they do boxing nights mon/weds @ 7 and on friday/sunday but I work all day on them 2 days.

It also offers private tuition during the day.

I guess the best thing is to pop down one day and speak to the owner and see what he has to say? I will need fitness training definitely but also boxing training obviously, I would assume that day time sessions would be the latter.
