Beginning to feel disgust for the part of me that enjoys the brutality.

When watching Jackson versus Hamill, I was on the edge of my seat hoping that Jackson would achieve the brutal knock out. I'm beginning to wonder where the pleasure I would have felt if this had happened is coming from.

When Macheda punted Randy's head, I was like **** you, take that Mr wrestler, I'm loving it. I'm not proud of this. I respect Randy a lot.

Mixed Martial is far more fighting than it is a sport in my view, im wondering if it is good for my soul.

This line of thinking troubles me.What kind of animal instincts do I and other humans who enjoy this barbarian sport makes us?One step above an ape,or one step below?

The real violence is outside the ring, in the ring is mutual accord, and have referees, comissions and medics.

Many people critizes combat sports but suports WAR, discrimination, sexism, opresion etc.****ing Hipocrites, they are the real violent people, and being violent not imlicates necesarily physical violence.

Boxing, MMA, Thai Boxing are a bit violent cant deny that, but there are things much worse.

I get what you are saying but comparing war to MMA is a stretch. That is an excuse the boys at Zuffa would make.

Im not a Zuffa boy.War is the most extreme form of violence, but are also others forms of violence that are more violent (ocasionally very "naive") that a pacted fight between to sportsmen.

But yes, I admit contact sports are violent, Im not blind.

It depends if you are of the thinking that it is a part of what makes us human and part of our personality and watching a fight be it ring or octagon (or even stepping in) is a healthy release. Or of the thinking that we should be able to transcend the baser parts of ourselves.

I've been getting a similar feeling in regards to boxing. I became a boxing fan in 1989, and used to rarely miss any event that aired on ESPN, USA, Shotime, HBO, and even purchase most ppvs. I found this forum because of being a boxing fan.

I have really dropped off the past couple of years. My appreciation of boxing as an art has gradually been replaced by disdain for it's brutality.

Boxing is the most barbaric form of combat sports. Don't let aesthetics fool you. Sure there a lot of grace involved, but that doesn't change the goal of the game. The goal is punching your opponent in the face. The rules are set up to make sure you get as much opportunity to do this as possible. Clinching is illegal. If you get knocked down, you get a brief rest just in case you want to get punched in the face some more. Judges often overlook bodypunching which places more emphasis on punching someone in the face.

MMA is brutal, but I feel there is much less head trauma for the most part. Chuck Liddell slurs his words, but he is the exception in mma. There are plenty of mixed martial artists that don't sound like that. Liddell's slurring is boxing's norm.

I'm still a boxing fan, but probably lesser each day.

Ive always wondered why Chuck slurs so badly when guys like Wanderlei and Thompson are relatively coherent
On another note, I really love this song

This is very true. The boxing rules were made to make the sport the physical and psicological hardest posible. And sadly probably the most bloodiest too.

Yes, MMA is most safe, but I feel is more violent because the act of punch an oponent who is on the ground (sometimes semi-ko) is more like dirty fighing, he has not the same posibilities of atack and defend that the agressor has, unlike in a stand-up fight, where both fight as the same circustances, conditions and handicaps.Hit a grounded oponent is more like a punk act than a sport.

All I can say is, I don't feel this way and never have. Well, maybe when I watch old videos of Tank Abbott butting and brutalizing people I feel it a bit, but that is a world away from high-level athletes and technicians like GSP or Jones or Penn utilizing Muay Thai or BJJ skills to definitively win a contest. I view this as a sport, I don't view it as fighting. Not criticizing anyone who does, you can only feel the way you feel, but for me this is not a problem. To me, the difference between two unskilled people having a fight based on a quarrel, and a sport like boxing or MMA, is just MASSIVE, too massive for me to ever have these concerns.
