Beginning to feel disgust for the part of me that enjoys the brutality.

    yea bro!!!

  2. i've been watching the best of pride lately, trying to catch up with all the fighters i'm unfamiliar with. some of the fights are better than any i've seen in the ufc btw.
when i fist started to watch mma, i have to admit i did find it a little too brutal at first. however apart from one particular thing, i no longer see it that way. i have no idea how things like this change.

one thing in pride that i didn't like, and i'm glad its not allowed in the ufc, are the kicks to the head while the opponent is down. i find that disgusting and far too dangerous imo.
the one other thing that makes me shudder when watching pride and the ufc are the elbows to the top of the head.
somehow it looks even worse when the guy getting them is bald!
personally i'd be happy if they were banned.
the human skull is not very thick, and to see elbows raining down on top of a guys head is sickening.
someone mentioned slurred speech in one of the posts, well i'd imagine taking too many of these would contribute to that in a big way.

I agree with you entirely about this, it's like when did it become acceptable to rain punches and elbows on an opponent who is flat on their back? To me this is still feels wrong. I don't want to make judgements on but just point out that for decades fighting was basically clean punches to the jaw, and generally a knock down was the end of the fight. Of course there was always dirty fighting but that was never made a spectator sport.

If the violence it bothers us, makes me wonder what the bleeding heart brigade think LOL.

That was real fighting though bro, if you let your opponent get up he could have done the same to you. MMA has rules and is controlled to a certain but if you take out "soccer kicks" which has been taken out and now your opinion taking out elbows it will mean that mma is no different than K1 in the standing exchanges between fighters the elbows and ground and pound with the short elbows is what sets mma striking apart from most combat sports bro.

Every idiot can throw a soccer kick or stomp a head. That arent technical movements and definitivley this is not how two sportmen fights. However, and said that, Pride fc was way muuuch better than the UFC.

MMA at first was practically to make street fightings legal meaning everything goes but then they had to alter the rules to make it safer.

if you dont like the sport cuz of what it is then dont watch it like me and cricket i can honestly for the love of God say that i dont understand it so i dont like it

The big argument about elbows vs kicks to a downed opponent concerns how quickly they can or can't end a fight. Some people argue that elbows do little besides cause cuts. Not everyone throws them with the ko power Jon Jones does.

The argument allowing kicks to a downed opponent, particularly knees to the head, is how quickly they can end a fight. The argument in favor is that one fight ending strike is less damaging in the long run when opposed to numerous lesser shots.

Im against elbows on the ground personally just because of the cuts.

The problem with soccer kicks etc is that they can knock someone out or cause alot of damage but because they are on the floor its harder to see how hurt they are compared to when a fighter is standing and you can see how hurt he is by looking at his legs or if he goes down.

A kick is harder in relation to the altitude level is landed. The lower the kick is landed, the more energy in the point of impact. Now imagine, if a Highkick to the head can knock you out and produce lessive damage, imagine how dangerous can be a soccer kick in the head, especialy if he is previously fallen to the ground by srtrikes and are semi-ko.Is lukey that no one was died in the ring in the times when the kicks and stomps to grounded oponent were legal.

The elbows on the ground are shitty technique with no Ko power who favors the lay and prayers that do nothing, but hugghing. And provoque cuts, and I know the rednecks love blood but I like the knockouts not the arbitral stopages via cuts.Is an easy way to "win".

Dog fighting, **** fighting, Arab horse fighting, gladiators in the Roman Colosseum, MMA, extreme sports....we are a brutal people at the core.
At some point in the future we will see live televised death matches....the rating will be huge in the demographics of 18- 35 men and it will then become mainstream on ESPN and Yahoo Sports.

Funny this thread mentions Hammil - when Jones opened up Matt's face and he lay there in a mask of crimson i felt the pretty disgusted too

Jones is one of those rare fighters who crosses the line and BRUTALLY DESTROYS guys. Put the ******* in with fellow bone breaker Anderson Silva

If we can live to see Jersey Shore we could see live to see televised Death Matches.

  15. i'm not saying i don't like the sport, just one very small part of it. actually its my favourite sport.

i'm really enjoying watching the old pride fights, a lot of them definitely do seem better than the current ufc fights. i particularly like dan henderson.
the other day the fight between don frye and yoshihiro takayama was shown.
wow, what a great beginning to a fight, both thumping eachother non-stop.

what happened to pride anyway, why are they no more?
