He's my prospect of the year however I still think Gamboa is the hottest prospect out there.

“When Davis pulled out of the fight only a few days before the show,” Shumenov said, “I was ready to cancel the show rather than fight just any opponent. I was offered a 5-0 guy

with three knockouts. No offense to him but I’d already beaten Montell Griffin, (Lavell) Finger, (Donnell) Wiggins and (Shannon) Miller. I didn’t want to go backwards. I was either going to fight somebody with a good record, well-known name or title, or I wasn’t going to fight at all. As soon as I realized that Mendoza had just fought Lacy and Dawson, I accepted the fight, and I want to thank Mendoza for taking the fight on such short notice. He’s a tough guy who came to win.

“I haven’t reached my limit in terms of mastering my skills, but I am ready now to fight any of the top light heavyweights in the world such as Joe Calzaghe, Bernard Hopkins, Chad Dawson, Zsolt Erdie, Roy Jones, Jr., Julio Cesar Gonzalez, Hugo Garay or Andrian Diaconu. I am working hard to improve my mastership and, when I reach the highest levels of my skills, I’d like to demonstrate it against all of the world’s best fighters.”

Already rated No. 15 by the WBO, Shumenov was highly-touted in the 2004 Olympics, winning his opening bout against Polish representative Aleksy Kuziemsky (presently 16-0 as a pro prospect), 37-22. But hampered by a hand injury, Beibut was defeated in the round of 16 by Turkey’s Ihsan Yildorim Tarham, 27-19, in the same light heavyweight division in which Andre Ward won a gold medal for the United States.

hella of an attitude for a young fighter if you ask me

I would say so, but Im pretty dissappointed of how far behind he is to other more accomplished 2004 Olympians.

You have got to be absolutely kidding me. Shumenov is technically woeful, he has an abundance of flaws, and still fights very much as an amatuer. Dawson is one of the top p4p fighters in the sport, a polished and proven pro, your comparison is completely ridiculous.

You might be right, but not even necessarily about this guy. There is so much talent at 175. Dawson can't ***** foot around for long with his belts. He'll be forced to fight some mandatories against some of these guys.

Exactly, i love the way all the 2 cent boxing analysts in this thread have judged him solely based on his resume. He beat a fuking ancient Montell Griffin. SO WHAT???

Have a look at the footage, then come back and try telling me this guy stops Chad Dawson, or competes with B-Hop. B-Hop would absolutely box this kids freakin ears off. It would be totally embarrassing.

He has had SEVEN fights - give him time.

Not many have beaten guys like Griffin within that time.

***** foot around... He has fought Harding, Adamek, Johnson and Tarver. Now he is looking to fight Calzaghe, Kessler or Diaconu. Where is the ***** footing around. Did you even think at all before you wrote that?

Griffin is SO far beyond shot it isn't funny. Personally when i evaluate a prospect i look at the footage, and judge their skills and ability. Not just hype myself up looking at boxrec. He has an absolute abundance of flaws, is very sloppy, and doesn't appear to be anywhere near as good a prospect as Gamboa. Gamboa has been facing better opposition also, demolishing actual top contenders.
