...so, this is kind of a weird situation. beIN Sports Español have a two-hour time-slot blocked out for this card on their programming schedule, from 11pm until 1am EST, and the description says "live". I know for a fact they are fibbers with pantaloons aflame, however. 11pm EST will be four in the morning local time, while midnight (when the main event ring walks conceivably would be underway in a typical boxing event televised over two hours, with the first hour devoted to either a co-featured bout or build-up & fanfare) is 6am. I highly doubt the Ghanaian audience is expected to stay up to watch a match - even a world title bout that promises to be competitive and entertaining (making this in many ways a treat and extreme rarity for boxing in Africa, period, honestly) - until the literal crack of dawn.

I did some digging and it turns out the first bell at the Bukrom Arena will be at the bottom of the hour, 6:30pm sharp, local time. Absolutely no way in hell are they going to stretch a five-bout undercard out for eleven hours, meaning beIN Sports Español are full of **** and their 11pm broadcast is going to be on tape delay...which in turn means that all of us outside Accra hoping to watch this will have to wait until then.

The co-main event - which logic dictates beIN Sports will most likely air given the 120 minute time slot - has the potential on paper to be an explosive contest between hard-punching young unbeaten cruisers.

No footage exists of a single professional match between them (a bit of Ferguson in the amateurs can be found), but Tabul and Ferguson are both 27 years old, with respective 11-0 (10) and 10-0 (10) records.

Confusingly, this is for the vacant WBO African CW title. Ferguson was born and raised in the USA, winning a national amateur title despite being a massive underdog with only 10 bouts at that point, and I'm not sure he's even black..? (if so, less than an octaroon, as he's lighter-skinned than his cracker ass trainer & manager Chauncey Welliver)

Ferguson has the only recognizable names on his record between them: old, brittle journeymen Damon Reed and Rubin Williams, both in their forties (as of when he fought them; Reed just weeks before his 46th birthday; Williams is now 41), both with over twenty career defeats, with a combined record of 77-50-1.

That said, Tabul - despite having fought nobody of note is said to have iron fists to corroborate his record - has the hometown advantage. Plus, with no video Ferguson would've been unable to do any homework or due-diligence on studying his style.

Call it a toss-up.

 

In reality or for our "tape delayed but pretending it will be live" purposes later?

The former probably around 6pm EST, the latter midnight.
