Munguía normally campaigns at middleweight. He didn't show any ill effects of draining in coming down two divisions.

 

Javier González vs. Edwin Palomares, 6 rounds @ featherweight

 

González is 8-0 (7), and Palomares is 3-0 without a kayo - but seems to have sold a bunch of tickets given the crowd noise for him, and is probably a local hero, perhaps a gym legend or successful amateur with a penchant for or style given to entertaining. (Cuautitlán Izcalli where the venue is located is part of the Greater Mexico City area, with Palomares hailing from the capital)

Palomares' legions aren't happy...González is dinging him up in the 1st. Edwin is getting peppered with face punches coming forward and skewered by jabs to his rib cage when he opens up with his own hapless sweeping counterattacks.

 

Mismatch. Rusito González is easily boxing the flat-footed plodder in the skirt-style trunks, batting at him with check hooks while dancing around the ring. 30-27.

 

The doctor steps in during the fourth to intervene, Palomares escorted to a stool in the corner and being examined for having absorbed too many clean, head-rocking, sweat-flying punches.

Jackie Nava vs. Ana María Lozano, 10x2" @ super bantamweight

 

Lozano is trained by Orangel Ramos, who corners many Venezuelans with padded home records and high KO rates but middling success abroad versus international competition - the sort frequently thrown in for world rated boxers to get some rounds in with little fear of actually losing. Most notable in his stable are Marco Avendaño (who knocked out Sebastián Luján and Fitz Vanderpool, and held Nobuhiro Ishida to a split decision in their first encounter but has otherwise been target practice for anyone halfway decent) and the luckless but tough Valera brothers.

 

Round 1

Nava is standing her ground at center ring and jabbing at the body, then smacking Lozano across the face with quick hooks as she rushes in. Lozano jumps toward her with a feinted 1-2 and then drops her left arm to hook the body. Nava lowers her elbow to block. Lozano is trying uppercuts from the hip with both hands, digging into Nava's belly. Counter hook by Nava at close range.

Round 2

Nava is drawing the lead, standing in front of Lozano and jerking away to slip the jab before returning with a boomerang 1-2 counter. Nava is holding out a loose guard and coming forward cautiously, picking off Lozano's exploratory jabs. Right hand gets through for Nava. The crowd senses Lozano was stunned and begins a chant of "Yaqui". Nava catches a roundhouse right from Lozano on the back of her left arm and quickly turns over a hook before Lozano can reset.

Round 3

Nava is whacking Lozano with lead left hooks, confidently coming forward now. Lozano gets in a couple of overhand rights lying in wait and they clash heads a couple of times. Nava persists in walking forward and flashes a couple of rapid-fire left hooks at the waistline of Lozano while catching a few more overhands in the crick of her neck and blocking hooks by positioning the back of her right wrist over her face.

Round 4

Nava is working the body. Lozano tries to reach past her and pull her gloves in like a cinch from behind, to strike Nava in the kidney area. Nava just leans forward and tucks her arms to her sides, blocking most of Lozano's body shots and then shooting straight up the middle to land on Lozano's face. Nava getting in some heavy leather. Lozano loading up but not landing cleanly.
