Round 1

Ximenez is working the right jab on the body and head from outside. Lagos just rolling his upper body around from mid-range and charging in with the odd 1-2 below the gloves, aiming for Ximenez's belly, trapped as he brings his wrists down.

Round 2

Ximenez is switching his stance frequently on the outside, poking the body of Lagos. Ximenez is starting with left uppercuts just above the groin and following up with quick, flush right hooks planted firmly against the cheek of Lagos, connecting with a thud. Lagos hanging in there and timing Ximenez with double jabs and flurries when he comes in. Ximenez getting off first and in greater plurality, taking advantage of his greater reach and hand speed. Lagos defending pretty well, not wasting too much energy, just patiently looking for spots against the more athletic guy and getting a few nice body licks here and there.

Round 3

Ximenez is switching from lefty to conventional every half minute or so. Lagos is turning in port and starboard to intercept Ximenez's uppercut combos on the undersides of his biceps, rolling with them as he steps laterally and fires his counter 1-2's down the pipe. Ximenez using head movement to slip all of Lagos' slower punches and peppering the body with uppercuts, connecting with some hook & straight combos on the chin. Lagos getting his head snapped back and coming up well short with a telegraphed lead right hand, arm left hung suspended in midair as Ximenez pops him with a straight counter combo and pushes his face up toward the bright lights.

Round 4

Ximenez is sniping with lead rights from a crouch just a pace off from Lagos. Ximenez working combos on the body while veering his bent knees in synchronization to his left, plaited kilt flaps standing on end straight out in the air. Lagos is knifing his upper body forward, looking to work on Ximenez's chest (eschewing the constantly moving target of the head) but Ximenez is able to weave and dip to either side deeply, always disappearing from view before Lagos can get off. Huge speed disparity here.

Round 5

Ximenez is caught with an underhanded right forked into the stomach as Lagos sets his feet and drives his entire self forward. Lagos is starting to rock his weight between his feet, unglued now from the canvas, no longer just a stationary target for Ximenez, nor reacting to his every move. Lagos now giving Ximenez something to mull over, stepping around him, penetrating his stance with the front leg, and leading with scooping body combos while reverting to a crossed-arm guard. Lagos is looking to crank one big shot at a time. He's landing some meaty body shots but never more than one, either missing the follow-up or not throwing any. Lagos spacing out his output, very selective. Connecting when he wants to and bossing Ximenez a bit this round, definitely the ring general and more efficient in terms of punch rate, but just not doing enough. Ximenez able to skitter around, flurry in counter, and stay just a step ahead, taking a "round off" comparatively speaking but still landing more than Lagos by way of spraying more, though his offensive work was much neater in the first four.

Round 6

Ximenez is getting backed up and caught with aggressive reach-in jabs now. Lagos is forcing exchanges and catching a piece of Ximenez's hot-pink coiffure with the high-flung left hook while falling forward & over to his right. Lagos is waiting for Ximenez, now southpaw, to shoot a right jab and just nudging it aside with a well-timed brush-off with his left arm, sweeping the right glove of Ximenez off and down, then seizing the chance to score a couple of quick light body shots. Lagos investing heavily to Ximenez's body, maybe hoping to slow him down in the later rounds. Lagos also getting in some jabs, seems to have figured out how to connect on it despite Ximenez's vast edge in overall speed (hand, foot and upper body movement) and slipperiness. Landing it sharply, Ximenez's head snapping back, sweat flying.

Lagos' corner is right, there is no time left to screw around. If this was a 10-rounder he would be able to keep chiseling away with a "break Ximenez down" strategy but he only has six minutes left to work with here so the time is now, he has to start committing to hurting Ximenez and hoping the body shots invested so far alreaddy are enough to kill the head.

 

Round 7

Ximenez is riding with the orthodox stance here, jabbing up quickly from a crouch, making Lagos raise his gloves to pick off the jab and then shooting a sudden hard right cross through, landing on the chin between the wrists or smashing Lagos' thumbs into his forehead, and finishing with a big sweeping left hook coming up to full standing height and leaning in. Ximenez landing some vicious body shots now. Lagos shelling Ximenez on the jaw with some heavy left hooks in the exchanges. Ximenez meeting Lagos shot for shot in the trenches and getting the best of it again with his speed, as in the early rounds. Low blow by Ximenez, accidental. Lagos quite hurt by it. Ref tells him to take his time. He takes about a minute to recover. Time in. Ximenez opens up some more, really teeing off from mid-range with explosive three-pieces.
