Ximenez is staying inside now, grinding his cotton-candy locks into the shoulder of Lagos and initiating long-form swap meets of huge body punches. Lagos is happy to oblige. They're both cracking each other up close & personal with stiff jabs and chopping rights. Ximenez able to add a wrinkle to his game by sliding back and landing a long line drive right on the face. Lagos getting in some mean 1-2s on the brow. Ximenez doing just a bit more, speed and reach carrying the day for him.

Commentator thinks both of the last couple of rounds could've gone Lagos' way - IMO they were close but clear for Ximenez, same ballpark as the 5th. So at worst I'd expect a draw. A full-on upset for Lagos as the road fighter would be very surprising. (but very game, impressive underdog performance from him)

Seeing on Twitter a lot of folks had it more like 77-75, or some even a draw. Nobody for Lagos, though. A classic "just enough to lose" effort. Ximenez too gifted for him. But you can add Lagos onto the ever-growing list of "journeymen Filipino road warriors that bring it".

 

Ximenez improves to 17-1 (4).

If only he could break an egg. Kid has anything else you could ask for.

 

Ximenez interviewed by a beIN Sports commentator in the middle of the ring, crowd still cheering, a giant bead of blood hanging in pregnant saturation from his nostril. He plays to his crowd, generating some babyface heat, states he's just happy to put on a show, etc., then when asked what he wants next snaps into laser-focus.

He directly calls out Christopher 'Pitufo' Díaz for that rematch!! Yeah!

 

So weird to hear & watch him speak. He's like a Latino, pink-haired, tatted-up version of a very young (late-teens, circa 21 Jump Street) Johnny Depp (but with his 9th Gate facial hair), but his voice sounds like Freddie Roach minus the Parkinson's, and with a dash of surfer dude.

Gotta say, his progression in that span of time has been disappointing. It took way too long to finally step up vs. Pitufo, and now almost two full years to recover from the bitterness of that first defeat. This kid needs better management!
