Cárcamo is trying but has taken on the appearance of a man boxing underwater (or rather in a giant vat of molasses). His looping shots are easily deflected off the elbows of Gorham or allowed to beach ineffectively along his biceps and slide away harmlessly. Gorham meanwhile is still landing enough hurtful short counters to get the judges' attention with the stumbles they cause in Cárcamo, although his work rate is very conservative and he doesn't appear to be putting a lot of mus**** on anything.

Round 9

Both men are tired. Both missing as they rush in with slow-handed combinations and then retreat without any opposition from the besieged. Cárcamo down. Ruled a slip. Gorham is getting in the only real clean punches of the round, looping the right on the outside and just barely clipping Cárcamo on the throat or cheek while he's loading up his own looping shots and preparing to run in.

Round 10

Cárcamo is stunned again - doing Bambi legs across the ring... Gorham caught him again with a combination on the button, not particularly crisp or fast but enough to send the exhausted Cárcamo reeling. Right hand lead and left uppercut by Gorham in pursuit, and Cárcamo is stretched out tall, diagonally prostrate without falling, sprinting on tiptoes across the ring at this awkward incline, finding himself in the corner, Gorham atop him, still unloading - waved off as he actually, finally, does go down for the second official time.

TKO10!!!

 

Gotta say while that was enjoyable and both put in respectable effort to make it so, my takeaway from that isn't so much that Gorham is much of a prospect as that Cárcamo has just done too much gunslinging and been in too many wars and is now a tier lower than he was at his peak (circa Boxcino on FNF).

 

Going by Twitter posts, Box Azteca is airing this on slight tape delay behind Telefutura - only just now entering the 5th.

Marcha Patriótica of Argentina gets the prerecorded full-orchestra instrumental treatment. Crowd in Chihuahua restlessly milling throughout it, not giving the same respectful silence they showed their own anthem. Lots of chatter and whistling.

edit: nope, just a long intro, there is a chorus singing the words on this recording - but they cut it off suddenly halfway through. Perhaps because of the impatience of the fans.

 

Zulina Muñoz vs. Vanesa Lorena Taborda, 10x2" @ super flyweight

 

Muñoz out to Shakira's Loba. (which is her ring moniker)

 

This is for the WBC female 115lb title, Muñoz's 9th defense. She is 9-0 (3) in contests for this belt, with a 46-1-2 mark (27 kayos) overall.

The challenger is 8-6-3 without a single career victory by knockout, but to be fair has been matched INCREDIBLY tough, having faced a handful of current or former world champions already. She has also never lost by stoppage.

 

Round 1

Muñoz is sniping from outside with the 1-2, deftly moving laterally and remaining squared up to her challenger. Taborda is trotting around her, giving a wide berth, occasionally testing out the waters jumping in with a light dusting of chops only to bound away just as quickly. BIG check left hook by Muñoz catching Taborda as she was dipping in going for a wide uppercut on the hip. Taborda is dropped hard. Cautious the rest of the way.

Pretty impressive statement if the she-wolf can blow Vanesa out early, despite the ugly record.

 

Round 2

Muñoz is ripping big left hooks downstairs. Taborda hammers down with a right on the clavicle and sweeps a left up from her knees at the champ's midriff. Taborda playing with fire, attacking VERY widely and with a wide-set base, never staying on her toes. Muñoz picks off shots on her gloves and lands pinpoint counters. Taborda gets in one partially-landed hook that drives Muñoz back a few steps momentarily.

Round 3

Long 1-2 by Taborda. Muñoz sways away from it with a couple of baby steps in reverse. Taborda is loading up and cranking in the overhand right. Muñoz puts up her left arm for cover but neglects the other side. TABORDA GOES BODY TO HEAD (EAR) WITH A PAIR OF BIG LEFT HOOKS AND CONNECTS WITH BOTH! Muñoz is down!!! She is up and grinning in typical Mexican embarrassed-warrior fashion, letting her mouth guard show as the ref takes her gloves in hand to check her responsiveness. She's fine. They circle at mid-range and exchange meaty body shots.
