    Hi guys,

Trying to understand this super champion status. Am i correct in thinking if you own 2 differents belts (i.e WBA & WBC) in the same dvision, your then known as a super champion? If this is the case, if im right, Shane Mosley has only one belt to his name yet is known as a Super Champion!

Any help on this would be great.

    Cheers

In Germany, they went on and on about Sven Ottke being the super champion.

It's just a term to hype hypejobs some more, in my opinion.

There's no real rhyme or reason behind it. It was only done so that they could steal double the sanctioning fees (regular champ and super champ). They weren't making enough money doing absolutely nothing so they decided to make some more.

I don't remember which one is which exactly, but for one of them it's if you hold two makor belts, then you're elevated, and for the other one it's if you hold 2 belts or have 10 title defenses then you're elevated. Still, they seem to make up additional things as they go along sometimes just so the champ doesn't need to fight his mandatory. For example, Cotto was elevated for no good reason just because there was no way he was going to face the interim title holder (Nuzhnenko).

That situation is just dumb. Cotto held the belt, and Klose was his mandatory. Then Klose lost to Nuzhnenko, who they elevated to interim titleholder, even though Cotto wasn't injured. Then because Cotto wouldn't fight Nuzhnenko, they elevated Cotto to super champion and made Nuzhnenko the regular champ. Cotto lost to Margo, who lost to Mosley, and Nuzhnenko lost to Senchenko, so after several years Mosley is now the super champ and Senchenko is the regular champ, yet they won't enforce Senchenko's mandatory. Seems like a money grab if you ask me.

Apart from making belts, appointing refs and judges, what do sanctioning fees pay for?

    lining pockets pretty much.

if the boxing organisations had to run non-profit we could re-legitimse the term 'world champion'

The only reasons i can think of are the fact that margarito won the wba title 3 months after winning and being forced to vacate the ibf title in order to fight cotto, upon winning the wba title he was awarded super champion status (the ibf title was still vacant at this point btw). Mosely beat margarito and thats why, its a load of bull****. Nevertheless, the ibf are a bunch of ****s as well for making margarito and more recently clottey vacate the ibf title to fight cotto:good
