Being honest here, I personally wouldn't mind Floyd vs Mayfield as his 49th bout.

The thing is, you don't have to pay for it.

It's not like he's forcing you to pay. No one has to pay for it.

So he's taking the risk if it completely crashing on him.

You forget to mention Coco that to get that multi Miillon Pac win
it Took Mayweather/Vegas/NSAC corruption & sabotage to STEAL it
he day Maywether fights a legitmate opponent in a fair fight on a level playing field with NO CORRUPTION!! backing him You'll see Mayweather get his a$$ handed to him

Bye Coco back to Barnum & Baily you go

Nobody cares who Mayweather fights at this point. All the haters were building up Pac and when he got schooled, they lost all hope...or made excuses about injuries and corruption. Lol.

When Mayweather said Mayfield's name yesterday, the boxing reporters laughed and asked if he was serious.

That would be the reaction of the fans and no one but *****s would buy. Mayweather can do better, and he will do better.

I agree, that's why I said: "Not if he expects anyone to pay for it"

The fact is that people hold the best boxer on the planet to a higher standard when it comes to picking opponents. Shocking, I know. Almost inconceivable.

Here's something to consider. Floyd can basically fight anyone he wants. He brings the money, the cache, the risk/reward, all that good stuff. All he has to do is pick up the phone and (within reason) he'll be able to get the guy that he wants in the ring to be there. Mostly because his opponent would be stupid to turn it down. Record high payday and a pass if you lose because EVERYONE loses to Mayweather.

With all that in mind you're okay with him taking Mayfield or Berto as potentially (probably?) his last fight? Why even do it then? He could have capped off his career with his masterful performance against Pac. If he wants an easy farewell fight then put it on PBC for free but even then, Floyd is still close enough to his prime -- and still head and shoulders above most other fighters in the 140-154 range -- that he can pick a more legitimate note to go out on.

He wasn't terribly hurt in his last fight so that this would need to be a "so long and thanks for the memories, now to take it easy" fight. Pac didn't hurt him, didn't take him to the limit and expose that he's human. It was another night at the office for Mayweather.

But again, I still don't believe he'll select either of those guys, too out of the norm for him.

Mayfield vs. Mayweather would still do 800-900k. Sounds like a good plan!

It wouldn't though. It would do a little better than Pacquiao/Algieri, around 600-675K.

He'd be lucky to do numbers in that region, IMO.

After his last showing - and to be truthful, even casualsl thought the fight was woeful - his stock has gone down.

    1) He has beaten his nearest rival.
    2) He now wants to fight a complete scrub.
    3) He won't fight Thurman, Khan, Brook or GGG.

People don't need to see May fight now. Everyone knew Manny was the one with the best chance of beating him, yet he got outclassed. The casuals - who only bought it for the event - don't need to watch him due to them seeing the only fight they wanted to see, and the hardcore won't watch him fight either Berto or Mayfield.

His stock has plummeted due to the Manny fight.

That was his last 'Big Fight'. Nobody cares about him now.

    Well said.

If he's fighiting a bum like Mayfield or even Berto/Khan (although Mayfield makes 0 sense, why not fight a bum with a name?) - do it on PBC. I wouldn't complain.

What if Pacquiao fought Cano next, which is better than Mayfield? Coming off a loss and will have whatever surgery he is actually having, you would slaughter that opponent. Floyd has five decent options, Thurman, Garcia, Khan, Cotto or Brook. There's no need for a guy like Mayfield and he would warrant criticism, legitimately for one of the first times contrary to popular belief so it's not 'fine' regardless of who he's beaten.
