Is anybody else more impressed by an undefeated record at 175 plus? Especially at HW? The margin of error is much smaller in the higher weight classes. If you lose concentration for a split second at HW then it's over. You get the lights turned off. Lennox Lewis knows this all too well. And if the shot doesn't end the fight right then and there, 1 shot in the higher weights could take your legs from you for multiple rounds, if not for the remainder of the fight. When I see guys who are undefeated at the lower weight classes I always take it with a grain of salt. They are working with much more room for error.
I think so! But also depends on how many dangerous fights you take too. Usyk being undefeated considering how many big punchers he’s schooled and how many times he’s been undersized… He’ll yeah it’s impressive. Add to the fact he’s done it in their backyards.
No because peoples first thought when seeing someone is undefeated is there was either something wrong with their competition, they didn't fight much or a mixture of both. While an undefeated fighter could be undefeated because they are just that much better than everyone else the former explanation is always much more likely. This is why the soft 0 of no unavenged losses was a better goal to chase because a fighter can get it back after losing while you can never get an undefeated record back once its gone. But no one really cares about that anymore. It really doesn't matter what weight they are it depends on the situation. The more outrageous streaks have been at lighter weights like JCC while the longest a top HW remained undefeated was Gibbons 52-0. But how many of those undefeated streaks way north of 50 have their been at the smaller weight classes? Maybe theres a curve but its not big. The way boxing works now is most first time champions are going to be either undefeated or have one loss. This applies just as much at HW as it does everywhere else. Dubois only got his title shot with two losses because he was meant to be a sacrifice to Hrgovic.
I see it more as who is the boxer fighting. If they are avoiding top competition then their undefeated record is crap. If they are fighting top guys then it is impressive. That can happen at any weight class.
All of his HW opponents have been heavier by an average of more than 30 lbs. All but one have been taller, by an average of 2 inches.
Not in my opinion. The amopunt of fighters that compete at 200+ is much smaller than the amount of guys that fight at, say, 160. Therefore by numbers alone the lighter weights are more likely to have stiffer competition.
That's just because you like big men and that's ok. It's way more important the level of who they are are fighting than the weight class as other posters have already said.
For me no because the level of the Heavyweight when you leave the top 30 is totally a joke if we compare Heavyweight with the Featherweight, Bantamweight or even Lightweight...
no. the power to knock any man senseless doesnt always come wrapped in skill. someone like ngannou could throw a punch at the right time and beat a top 10 hw. the smaller divisions are less forgiving of lack of skill. because they usually have to successfully find the target multiple times in order to eliminate an opponent.
