    Ok no need to start another extended thread, so just expressing an opinion;

Just watched round 9 for the first time on some pinoy stream
(my online stream crashed in the 8th on fight night) with foreign commentary, so it had no influence on me,....and that stoppage was BS.

Margo was definately getting to Cotto in round 9 and there was still 3 rounds to go.
It was easily his best round and Cotto was clearly feeling the pace and the heat Margo was increasingly bringing to bear.
Personally i think he would certainly have narrowed the scorecards and possibly even TKO'D Cotto in the remaining rounds.

The eye had been a problem for most of the fight, yet it gets stopped just as Margo is getting on top with only 3 rounds left? Just the last Quarter of the fight.
What BS........the doctor TKO'd Margo, not Cotto.

I was neutral in this fight; not pro either guy, but that stoppage stunk and may have saved Cotto's title.
    However we'll never know.

    What bollocks.

I'm a Margarito fan a staunch defender of his.

He did not and never was going to win that fight. Cotto fought with a much better gameplan, end of.

    you can't say that...at all

all we can say is that margo was coming on strong, and cotto was getting hit a lot...just like their first fight

for margo "not landing the same amount of punches" dont you think cottos face was telling a different story....to me, redemption would've been to make him quit, ko him, or a solid 12rd ass whoopin....but the dr. definately saved his ass in that fight....

I think the fight could have gone on. I also think Margarito's eye swelling, recent harsh fights and inactivity took a toll on him. I just think Cotto, on the night, got the better of Margarito. His lateral movement was better, he expended less energy in the early rounds. Antonio may have won some of those remaining rounds, but he wouldn't have stopped Cotto, and he wouldn't have got the decision.

If that was, indeed, Margarito's so called "best round" of the fight, then that just further justifies the stoppage, because that round was pretty much all Cotto. Outside of right hand, left uppercut combo near the end of the round, Margarito barely landed a significant punch in the entire frame. His punches at this point in the fight seemed to have very little on them.

For the record, I picked Cotto to fade and lose by TKO, once again. But by this point in the fight, I was pretty convinced Margarito wasn't getting to him as he did in their first match.

Cotto still won the 9th round landing the harder punches including landing 4 left hand bombs in the last minute that snapped his neck back.

agree. not sure if margo was gonna get the KO BUT it was gonna be a really good ending. i feel the the doctor took away from cottos performance.

Margaritos win was much better the Cottos tko (thanks to the doctor and pacman...lol)

you MUST understand that Margacheato's eye was already an issue before the fight, then after 6 rds his eye( the bad one)is all swollen and he CANT see out of that eye, he was eating everything coming from that side.He was given several rds the oportunity to pressure and show he could win,but Cotto -who showed in pretty good shape-kept eluding, moving and landing the best shots. In rd 9 like in every other rd we saw the cheater trying to catch cotto unsuccesfully. What did you want?, his eye to pop out of the sucket? the commission being questioned about why the ****er lost his vision?...NO, if he wanted to KO cotto he had plenty of time to do it.
Cotto by the way, was ready to go 5 more rds, his camp was terrific. I personally woudnt mind seen Cotto another 3 rds against that cheater.I wonder how his eye gonna look then.

    Harder is relative.
I think Margo's shots were hurting Cotto more than the reverse.
Cotto couldnt stop Margo's forward motion, despite those punches, but Cotto looked far more uncomfortable when Margo was getting through.

Since when do we judge a fight on what if...this can be viewed from many different perspectives. By the tenth rds Margarito eyes was complete shut...Cotto would of capitalized on that sweet spot more intensively. Cotto, stamina and condition won him this fight !

Err no, but you say that like it was a guaranteed to happen.
    It wasnt.
There were only 3 rounds left and its highly unlikely his eye would have popped out of its socket.
Have you ever seen that happen in a Boxing-ring?, especially considering the eye was closed, so popping out would have been virtually impossible.

Oh and yes he'd already "had plenty of time" (9 rounds) to beat Cotto, but he was actually contractually entitled to have 12 rounds to do it believe it or not (worked the last time)

I still think BS stoppage and those last 3 rounds would have been very interesting as Cotto faded (imo) and Margo went for broke.

BTW I did know Margo had a damaged eye, compliments of Pac, when entering the ring, so there was no need to point that out Kid.:good
