Belfast came away as the other winner last night. I think it's reputation as beinga fair venue was somewhat enhanced last night. I think Damien Kelly is another example. But sure enough I'm sure 1 or 2 homers have been given in there. That said, if you had to fight as the away boxer Belfast is probably where you would want to fight.
Very little booing as well when the decision was read out and Lindsay got a good round of applause when he walked around the ring after losing. Remember people worrying about a riot down in Limerick if Martinez had fought and beaten Casey!
It was a great fight, great atmosphere and you have to hold your hands up and say that Belfast is one of THE Boxing cities. :good
Ah, that was just talk, I don't think it would have been bad. I was talking to loads of lads that night from around where Casey is from, and they were all grand. Although Hyland did get booed when he was coming to the ring, which i wasn't a fan of, but nobody jeered him after, it was just to try to give the extra edge to the hometown lad i guess.
But the officials are the same as you will see in any town or city anywhere in the UK. So why does that make Belfast any different to London, Manchester, Glasdow etc. None of them were Irish
Yes but this is not an Irish/British debate. I'm talking about Belfast as a city. I'm from Dublin myself but I'm just saying I thought from the point of view of the away fighter (in this case Simpson) it was a decent place to have to go, as opposed to, for example Manheim or Berlin. As for British title fights I'm not restricting it to "British Title" fights either. I'm trying to remembera close decision went the way of the home town fighter in Belfast where the majority of neutral fans though the away fighter had won. Not a lot come to mind.
