Belfort v Johnson- A Black Eye For MMA?

    Win or lose.. Anthony Johnson will step into the cage with an 12 pound weight advantage. In order to save the card, he was required to weigh no more than 205 the following afternoon.

    I can't help but think back to Castillo/Corrales II & III.. Castillo fights in the rematch despite a 3 1/2 pound weight disadvantage and brutally knocks out Chico while trading on the inside. At the weigh in for the 3rd fight, Castillo shows up 4 1/2 pounds too heavy.. Fight cancelled, Chico sues for damages.

    This is the 3rd time Rumble Johnson has weighed in over the limit.. Not 6 pounds, but 12 this time around.

    If this isn't a black eye for the sport I don't know what is.. So my question is this.. Would you have cancelled Belfort/Johnson given the severity of his advantage and history of disrespect for his opponents, fans, employer, and sport in general? Or leave it in the hands of his opponent?

    It's not good that's for sure. We'll have to wait and see how it all plays out over the next twenty-four hours.

    Storm in a teacup. If Vitor is willing to fight and so is Johnson let the fight happen. Fighters have been fighting in MMA with way higher weight discrepancys than that.

    I know, but this isn't the 90's, and we have unified rules.. Is this all for nothing??

    **** will slowly hit the fan if Belfort is beaten up, KTFO or dare I say, severely injured.

    But this is also true. If the unthinkable should happen and Vitor is seriously injured the UFC is going to be extremely happy this happened in Brazil and not somewhere with a legit athletic commission.

    This is all going to fall at Johnsons doorstep. If he fights anything less than a perfect fight, if he gasses or has a boring round he's gone.

    This isn't Gatti vs Joey Gamanche. We're talking about a discrepancy of a few lbs. A fully hydrated Vitor is close too and probably more than 200lbs. Likewise Rumble weighed 204 today. Too much is being made of this.

    Vitor should have the option to fight, get a % of his purse and Johnson should be terminated if he never informed the UFC of a legitimate reason before the weigh in.

    he did , and he does get a % of Johnson's purse and he also made the stipulation that Johnson weight 205 at 2 o clock today which he did. so all in all this fight will be as legit as it should get.
