This fight may happen. Makes sense as the 109 card is in need of good a main event. http://www.fightersonlymagazine.co.uk/news/viewarticle.php?id=3527
Very good fight. If Belfort wins he truly deserves the title shot and I don't think even Anderson Silva could deny that. And if Marquardt wins he solidifies his claim as no. 1 contender. Hope this gets made.
Amazing fight so I guess obviously Marquardt-Sonnen is stratched ? I notice its only been offered to Vitor but we know Vitor wanted to fight at 109 regardless and has a rep for fighting anyone, anywhere, anytime basically. Decent card I suppose Marquardt-Belfort determines a true legitimate challenge for Anderson Silva and a HOF battle between Couture and Coleman.
That would be an awesome fight. Both guys top 2 contenders obviously with Henderson out, this fight makes all the sense in the world.
I was saying this before his latest "setback" He didn't want to fight Hendo or Marquardt and he didn't want to fight Belfort and won't fight Machida either. His injury timetable which has been pushed back till April seems very convienient so he can get his way. This content is protected
Agree with you both Quebec and AJAX. I myself have found Anderson Silva's recent actions a bit sketchy.
Marquardt is just such a hard fighter to get a read on style wise. Is he a wrestler/grappler? A grappler with good takedowns? Is his striking as good as it seems? I really can't read him. I can read Belfort, and unless he wins early, he will get broken and finished; I don't think he will win early.
I don't know why he was so upset with vitor getting a title shot so soon he got his shot after beating Leben. but it just doesn't matter what you do in the UFC, what happens before you get there does matter. Fedor was going to get a title shot if he would have signed and Belfort had just sparked Linlund in his last fight.
To what extent is Silva saying he is injured? In Dana's blog he was moving around fine. Obviously doesn't mean he is 100% but I don't see a sling or anything.
I think Silva has earned the right to get the benefit of the doubt. Unless there is compelling evidence he isn't hurt, he is hurt in my eyes. His attitude about his opponents is wrong, period, but he has earned the right to take time off if he feels physically unready.
Silva has (or had) two pieces of loose cartilage in his elbow apparently. http://www.portaldovt.com.br/pvt_mag_en/ Page 15 of this online mag. Good interview. Silva talks about quite a lot of interesting stuff in it from his days in Chute Boxe to his freindships with Lyoto and others.
