Will Bellew give up his entire purse to see the fight happen like Kovalev had to do? I dont see Ward going to the Uk so that they both can get a healthy paycheck.
Honestly if Ward doesnt have a tune up firstto adjust to the weight its very very winnable for Bellew.
Not sure if Ward will want to travel to the UK or that Bellew is willing to go to the US for mediocre amount of money and to get cheated in there as well. Should try to make Kovalev vs Bellew in the UK at 190-195 catchweight instead , Kovalev was willing to move up and fight Bellew like 2 years ago or less in an interview.
I'm not sure if it will be the superfight that Bellew thinks it will be. I mean Bellew can sell a fight, but can Ward? And with no shiny trinkets up for grabs either, I'm not sure if it will sell that well to the general public. If Bellew thinks he can beat Fury (he says he can), then he should pursue that fight. It will be worth it just for the pre-fight trash talk.
I know Ward is around 200lbs right now so in terms of weight it could be done at Cruiser or Heavyweight but I believe it when I see it. Ward would need to come to the UK for this fight to make money the last 2 Ward fights bombed in the US doing only 160K and 125K for the Kovalev fights and we all know Ward doesn't like to travel. Even if Ward does genuinely want it he'll torpedo the negotiations with either demand for the fight to be in the US but still expecting to make good UK PPV money, or demand it be at Wembley stadium in front of 90K mostly empty seats instead of maybe 20-30K full seats at the O2 or at Goodison.
Thing is though, in the last 12 months period, Ward has had more rounds in the ring than Bellew. Let's not forget prior to the Haye rematch, Bellew hadn't been in the ring since Haye 1 14 months earlier. I also presume Ward has been keeping active in the gym. Never bought his retirement, it was just Roc Nation had stopped paying him massive sums he wouldn't even come close to generating, nobody at the time he retired was prepared to throw money his way like Roc Nation, but now with this Matchroom/Danz deal, Ward might be able to be lured out of retirement.
Not necessarily. With this deal with Danz Matchroom have just done they can now put it on in America. From interviews I've seen with Hearn, he's always thought Ward should be one of the biggest draws in boxing if he's promoted correctly, so maybe Hearn will see the green in him and use him as one of the guys to push this new deal. And he did mention Bellew v Ward as a possible fight for the service. But I agree Ward in no way dusts off a passport and goes to the UK. Him asking for Wembley for a Froch rematch was laughable.
