After March 9th bill poor viewing the Bellew show had an average of 178k.

  2. I'm no expert but that sounds reasonable to me
As it wasn't a title fight or one of his big three(froch, burns, brook)

    Big three?

Is Ricky straight in there then?

Tony Bellew is the next Junior Witter. :deal

  4. I think froch and brook were producing best tv figures for Hearn

As with burns, world champ add Scottish support surely he would outsell the likes of barker and groves

Froch, brook, burns and frampton are big ticket sellers irrespective of undercard

Bellew's not been built up yet like Froch and Brook have. As I've said on here previously, he doesn't get the same amount of attention that David Price gets here in Liverpool and the same can be said UK wide too. If he does ever manage to challenge Dawson then his profile will go up because Sky will hype him to the moon and ratings will likely improve. Right now though he's still a B-level draw.

Ricky sells in Scotland, no doubting that, he has a die hard fanclub, and they will follow him wherever in the UK. There was a gap in the market up north, and Eddie Hearn took advantage of the situation.

But Ricky has yet to prove on the biggest stage, if he can draw.....and they seem reluctant to take the fights. Ricky might be a rising name here, but everywhere else he is still relatively unknown....and he holds a strap, whats that saying?

We know that a Burns vs. Broner fight would be a big fight, but plenty in the US wouldn't see it that way at all, half of them don't even know who Ricky Burns is. They didn't know who Gavin Rees was apart from a boxrec page.

Hopefully that will change under a new promotion, but the early signs dont look good with Eddie Hearn admitting he doesnt want him to take the Broner fight, especially after seeing his immense talent first hand in the Rees fight. He dont want Ricky taking that fight because he thinks his own fighter will lose.

Some vote of confidence! Talk about getting behind your fighters! You'd think he'd be full of praise for his new acquisition, but it appears Eddie is being brutally realistic and honest.

Fair play to him for that. :good

(and thats coming from me  )

TBF Hearn said that before signing burns after the Rees fight, he couldn't go back on those words just because he signed him, he said froch beats groves before signing him and he's stuck to that view. I give him props.:good

He did indeed say that before he signed him (soon after the Rees vs. Broner fight) and has maintained that point of view now.

Fair play Eddie! You're going up in my estimation now, now dont bloody wreck it! :good

What do you mean by 'But Ricky has yet to prove on the biggest stage, if he can draw'

    Ricky's biggest stage is Scotland.

You take any boxer away from their fan base and i dare say they'll struggle to sell tickets.

You want an example? Trout / Canelo wouldn't half fill the SECC. Burns / Mitchell sells it out.

It's generally only those who transcend the sport that sell out arenas anywhere the fight.

    Of course it is.

But if Ricky wants the mega fights, he cant stay in Scotland. He needs to travel and make a name for himself across the world. Not just in Coatbridge and around the UK.

I'm just being honest. The big time is obviously the US, thats where the big fights are, Ricky needs to be in with that lot soon and getting well known.

Because if he jumps across to face Broner for the first fight, he won't have any power!

    1) Because they don't know who he is
    2) He aint fought anyone, in terms of a Vazquez, a Gamboa, an Abril, a Broner etc etc.

Hatton managed to crack it, Khan managed to crack it, Nas managed to crack it, Lewis managed to crack it, it CAN be done. You've just got to want and take the fights. Big fights lead to bigger fights. Its just common sense.

Thats the average figure. It may been heading for over 200k and Bellew fight brought it down.
