Bellew started his pro career at lhw and had his opportunity to fight Stevens, Chilemba and Cleverly. Stevens was a step or two too far as he was KOed pretty badly. Cleverly got better of him, but he managed to avenge his loss. IMO he wasn´t good enough at the world level (2007-2013).

I suppose he realized it and moved up to CW (2013-) where he could try his chances one more time. He was matched shoftly against journeymen (Dos Santos, Bacurin, Kulikauskis) and some gatekeepers (Cleverly, Masternak, Makabu, Flores). He over performed and managed to beat them all to secure his career payday against aged and injured David Haye (once a great CW and very good HW). He got lucky as Haye was even more injured than expected. Then he went to repeat the same hustle against Haye to gain even more money.

Bellew hasn´t faced a top 10 opponent in his career (except Stevens, at LHW, whom he lost badly and that was 5 years ago) and now there are people
who would want to see him agains Usyk - a champion, P4P fighter who really knows how to box and has faced real (and the best of division) CW.

How is this even possible? Are english boxing fans stupid or what?

I agree some people are getting carried away with bellew but then it sounds like your guilty of going the other way. He's a solid boxer. He isn't guna trouble somebody like uysk but he isn't a complete fraud either.

People want to see him lose, they even wanted Haye to beat him precisely because his career feels like a con job.

I'm British and the only reason I want Usyk v Bellew is to see Bellew take his whoopin...Hes been talkin shite for years and it just got silly v Haye who was finished..Its time now for him to face an elite CW

I'm not English or am I under amt delusions that Bellew is the best thing since slice bread, but Usyk and Bellew were head and shoulders ahead of the rest of the cruiserweights. Bellew is certainly better than Gassiev, who barely managed a decision against an old and past prime Lebdev or Briedis, who struggled with a bum like Mike Perez. Bellew is also way better than Light punching and weak chinned Dorticos, who looked like garbage against a shot Edison Miranda, who Bellew destroyed.

You completely downplayed Bellew's light heavyweight run, but forgot to mention that 175 is a very competitive division while cruiserweight is a mediocre division. A Prime Stevenson or Andre Ward in top form would easily clean out the weak cruiserweight division, so Bellew losing to Adonis doesn't say much, since I think a Prime Stevenson would've did the same thing to Usyk.

Also, Bellew could've easily stayed at cruiserweight and been in the finals instead of the horribly overrated Gassiev, but what was the point. There isn't any money at cruiserweight and never will be. Any cruiserweight that has elite skill will always run to heavyweight.

You said Bellew hadn't faced any top 10 opponents besides Stevenson, but this isn't true.

    Bellew ranked opponents besides Stevenson
    Chilemba x2 - ranked 7th
    Cleverly - ranked 5th
    Makabu - ranked 5th
    David Haye - ranked 8th

Bellew didn't over perform against Haye at all. I knew that Bellew was going to stop Haye both times. Plenty of people made good money off those stupidly lopsided odds. Haye's legs were shot and Haye wasn't active enough. Also, unlike most heavyweights that don't move Bellew has mobility along with handspeed and isn't an easy target. I knew in the first fight Haye was going to have trouble landing cleanly on Bellew and that Haye's inactivity was going to have an impact on Haye's stamina, which was never great even in his prime.

I like Usyk and think he's an excellent talent, but he still hasn't done anything than tells me he would easily beat Bellew. I see it as a 50/50 fight, since Bellew isn't stiff and slow with overrated power like Gassiev or a novice like Hunter. Bellew would easily be Usyk's best win.

Good summary you have through rose colored lenses. Do you ever bump into Bellew in Liverpool?

So Usyk, who in your words is an "excellent talent", and in the eyes of others is alongside Holyfield as the GOAT @ CW, wouldn't beat Bellew? He'd absolutely take Tony to school.

Tony, barring his wins over the most shot version of Haye you could ever hope for, hasn't done a single thing of note against a TOP opponent.

Love bellew inside the ring, idc what anyone says I like over achievers. Bellew is a pretty dang good boxer puncher who loves hooking, very exciting to watch. Bellew is actually underrated, I lost respect he sold his soul though. Idk if I have a basis cause I won money on Bellew as the underdog but Makabu-Bellew was very fun I watched over a dozen times

Bellew has maximized his earnings from solid but limited talent. Fair play to him for doing that.

But he needs to be more humble as he knows as much as anyone he hasn't beaten a top 10 CW and only beat Haye because he was a shot cripple. He also needs to learn to be quiet for at least 5 seconds.

Absolutely no way Bellew fights Usyk. He knows he would get schooled.

Considering ive picked against him like 5 times in fights he's gone on to win, the answer is no.

Nobody is claiming he's some elite ATG but hes taken some risks and they have paid off.

Btw id ficking love it if he by some miracle chinned usyk

    Harsh.

I would say his worked and earnt everything he has.

His no great but after Stevenson his done a hell of a job.

It wasn’t bellew’s fault that Haye was finished.
