Bellew v McKenzie I - Early stoppage or not?

You complete and utter ****. Assuming that i want to see boxer's get badly hurt:verysad I love to see knockouts ofcourse, stopping a fight when a guy isn't even slightly hurt which happens every week in Britain and you are blatently on the end of Bellew's bellend if you think Mckenzie was badly hurt or "unable to defend himself" which you claim when he clearly dodged a few shots. That is called defending yourself!!

 

No. Perhaps he wants to see fights like Corrales-Castillo, Ward-Gatti, or even domestic level scraps like the Moore-Jones fights. There is a huge difference between allowing someone unable to defend themselves to be starched and allowing a fight to continue and then jumping in when punches are not even landing.

Enzo-Haye was not premature. The ref looked at him, did the 8 count, assessed whether he could defend himself and correctly decided no and stopped it. Bellew-McKenzie was premature. The ref looked at him, did the 8 count, decided he was able to fight on, and then leapt in after one shot of a bunch had landed and Ovil was still holding up a guard and moving.

The moment the guard drops, such as Mitchell-Katsidis, Froch-Taylor etc, stop it. But it is clear that fighters can be staggering and hurt, weather a storm and win. Khan did it against Maidana in the 10th not so long ago, and there are numerous other examples including the above ones I mentioned.

 

There are of course, annoyingly early stoppages by British refs but imo this was a good decision

Ovil gets up, doesnt respond to the ref, doesnt raise his gloves or walk forward when told to do so

When allowed to continue he has his hands by his sides after Tony rushes in lands a right hand & the ref jumps in

He didnt dodge any shots at all & to suggest he wasnt hurt is yet more nonsense

If, I was on Tony's **** as you suggest I would agree with him & say the stoppage was premature

In that case the ref should not have even waved it to carry on. You have to raise your gloves after the count before being allowed to continue. I do not remember this failing to happen at all, but I'll go back and double check.

 

We all hope Tony does win however I hope he does what he said on SkySports News and "use his boxing brain and skills".
We all know he has got a massive punch so the KO will come whether it be early or late - just hope he doesn't go all out from the bell to 'smash him' like we've encouraged him to do (at least wait 60 seconds).

I could tell by Bellew flailing and missing McKenzie by a few feet each time that a brutal knock out was on the way. Surprised it wasn't stopped a round earlier, just in case.
