I just seen Campbell v Mendy is inn the Bellew v Haye bill. Their kept that one quiet to the last (as far as it being thus weekend). This is best British bill in a long time.
Can we read much into the pad work? Tony looked really fast well drilled and well oiled. Fluid is the word id go for. Haye seemed slower, more methodical like he was really trying to think about what he was doing and place his punches. Seemed to not be rotating the hook like he used to. So was he being ultra careful not pull something? Is he really having to force Salas new input into his work or was he just not bothered.
I haven't seen the footage but Haye has looked like **** ever since he came back in 2016. He looked the same long before anyone said "achilles injury". He looked plodding and stiff and immobile against DeMori and Gjerjaj. Not surprising, since he was known to be damaged goods about 2 or 3 years earlier, with his career-ending injuries. People are saying this fight comes down to whether Haye is fit. I think it's more a case of whether Bellew is fit. We know Haye's a wreck. The only way Haye wins is if Bellew is injured or out of condition. That's possible too, of course. The fight is Tony's to lose. He should win.
11 pages deep..glad to see im not the only one hyped for this! Really hope Haye wins. Ive got no problem with Bellew, to be fair i like the bloke. They both showed heart in the first fight, Haye especially..grit his teeth and fought through the injury, my respect for him shot up. Either way cant wait until Saturday. Team Haye........WAR!!!!!
Re watched Haye doing pads with Adam Booth on Youtube 'IFL' prior to his pullout with Tyson Fury. Looked like a beast, razor sharp jab, right hand and left hook. Looks a shell of his former self. I honestly don't know if he has enough in the tank anymore to beat Bellew at this stage. Time will tell!
Yeah, if you watch old workouts of him on the pads with booth he looked far more relaxed and fluid...emphasis seems to be on power these days, his punches look much shorter to me as well...
100% on punch range. He doesn't seem to throw that old Hayemaker with anywhere near as regularity or spite anymore.
His arm/shoulder is shot to bits have been for about 5 years. Could be another sad sight tomorow night.
The more I think about it the more obvious it is he isn’t the fighter he was... Strangely I still think he can compete in the division as it is. He’s still quick for a heavy and has power and decent defence but ironically he’s now culpable to being outboxed by faster and smaller men... Don’t think he’ll win a title though... Also see it being another competitive fight but expect Haye to catch him when Tony gets more confident and opens up later on in the fight... Think he should retire whatever the result tomorrow, you can see from his movements he’s lost a lot of that fast twitch he had, does he really want to go out on a loss for a few million vs one of the big boys?
