Agreed - he struggled to go the 12 against Masternak (just rewatched it). He finished strongly but was blowing and taking rounds off, getting caught a lot... I think the bigger issue is he’ll not have the stamina to avoid a big punch for 12 rounds...
I wouldnt even call it borderline, he was clearly trying to be funny making reference to Mr Miyagi from the karate kid films. Very very childish to be honest.
It’s typical Bellew really. Literally minutes before he was saying how much respect he has for Salas and how he won’t speak badly of him. Minutes later he is calling him Mr Miyagi. Ironic really when he has Penfold in his corner, the most cretinous rodent like figure in boxing today.
I think the problem with haye boxing him is...Tony's reflexes are faster than Hayes nowadays. Tony countered haye a good bit in that last fight. Haye was throwing bombs right enough. And hes still fast when hes swinging...but its basically pre rehearsed moves from the pads. When it comes to standing in range and getting off I think tony will make him pay after he throws...he had a good bit of success with it in the first fight. Tony's reflexes we,re pretty good. Hayes looked diminished to me. Prediction wise its still up in the air....can haye punch straight with the right hand? Was the first performance down to injury going in? Personally think bellew will win it again...Hayes finished. But still to many question marks to make an accurate prediction. Hayes always got a chance with the power. I see him boxing to start with...getting frustrated with a lack of success with it. Then trying to bomb him out through frustration...getting caught and taking out probably through tiredness. Hayes always jumped the gun a bit and went to his power...he doesn't really know how to not be an on top fighter. A bit like hatton in that when the tide was turned...they didnt know how to handle it. Haye should be forgetting about looking great....bellews very good at spoiling the other guys work. He needs to be patient...try to set traps. Don't force the fight and wait for bellew to make the mistakes. Hayes falling into a trap with his if I don't look great I,ll retire chat.
It was interesting listening to the bbc boxing podcast with Costello and Bunce. They were saying that Haye has an excellent chin, exemplified by the few shots he took from Klitschko. However, they fully agreed with Bellew’s observation that Haye is susceptible to being proper wobbled by shots to his temple. I know people think Bellew doesn’t have the power to buzz Haye, but I would argue that he does. Yes, he couldn’t take him out in that first fight but credit to Haye. He was a very awkward target on them ropes, slipping, sliding and rolled with the shots superbly. He can be caught in an exchange.
These two are a pair of utter drongos. What would suit me is for them both to knock each other unconscious within the first thirty seconds of the opening bell. This is a shameless charade of a "rivalry" and didn't deserve a first bout never mind a second go. Is there anyone in boxing who deserves a payday less than Mr. Reality TV David Haye?
I’m more interested in this fight than the first because I want to see if Haye’s body holds up and what happens if it does. I definitely think he was injured going into the first one but Bellew was boxing very well before the injury. I do believe Haye’s achilles made him come out looking to take Bellew’s head off as he knew it was probably only a matter of time before it went. Before the first fight I was of the opinion that if Bellew could survive the first 6 he’d win. But now I’m not so sure, he gassed badly in the last fight and although he looks lighter if Haye is still in there uninjured I think it’ll be the same. Bellew couldn’t get Haye out for 5/6 rounds after that injury so I really find it hard to see him stopping Haye this time barring a Makabu style shot which I don’t believe would happen because Haye wouldn’t get caught with the shot that started that ko off. On a separate note, I think Hearn is out of order making Haye answer questions to Bellew’s crowd. I’m all for intimidating your man’s/teams opponent in order to test him psychologically, probably more than most. But for the promoter of the event to encourage it is as classless as it gets. I know Hearn and Haye don’t like each other but I think that was too far. Them fake scousers from over the water giving Haye abuse need to turn it in and show a tiny bit of respect and I don’t really like Haye. I used to like Bellew but I’ve lost a lot of respect for him since the last fight since he refuses to admit the injury had anything to do with the result. I didn’t like the first fight but I couldn’t begrudge him the opportunity to make all that money but once it was done he then refuses to go back to cruiser. Why didn’t he enter the cruiser tournament? Unless I change my mind it will be the first time I wont care if a scouser loses at something, ever, on Saturday.
calling him Mr Miyagi isn't racist, don't be silly. Yes saying he looks like someone that isn't racist.
fingers crossed for a fight as entertaining as the first one I think haye stops bellew this time, probably in 5
