I can't say Jerry won the draw with Patterson, I thought Floyd beat him

I agree Quarry was at the end when he met Norton, but he still gave Ken a heck of a fight, and Norton fought masterfully; actually I think Norton never looked better than he did that night.

The first fight was a draw with many feeling Patterson was unlucky not to get the nod.
    Referee: John Thomas 5-5

"In a stunning decision which caught the crowd of some 20,000 by surprise, Jerry Quarry, 193, was voted a draw with Floyd Patterson, 194, Friday night at the Coliseum. Young Jerry opened fast winning the first round. Midway through the second round Quarry found the opening he had been waiting for and ripped home a left hook that dropped Floyd. Quarry was on Floyd like a tiger and sent Patterson tumbling to the canvas again with a right hand to the chin. From there on it was Patterson's fight and gave Jerry a severe pounding. Quarry was bleeding from the nose, mouth and a cut over the right eye from the 4th round on. Quarry looked as if he might start a rally halfway through the 7th round but Patterson offset this when he dropped an offbalance Quarry with a left hook high on the chest. Quarry came on in the 9th, shaking up Patterson with a right to the head and following up with a terrific left hook to the body, but Patterson opened the last round with a solid left hook to the chin and ripped Quarry's body with another left hook and seemingly won the fight only to have the officials see it otherwise." -Long Beach Independent Press-Telegram

    Unofficial scorecards

    • AP - 8-5 Patterson
    • UPI - 5-3 Patterson
    • LB Press-Telegram - Two writers covered the fight, Dave Lewis and Dave Taylor, who scored it 7-5 and 7-4 respectively for Patterson
    • Pasadena Star-News - 5-5 Draw

I know why the fight ended in a draw. The knockdowns went 2-1 in Jerry's favor. But imo, after Floyd was dropped twice in Round 2, Floyd won most of the fight from there, cutting Quarry badly, dropping him in round 7, and laying some severe punishment to the body. Floyd won despite going 1-2.

WELL HOW BOUT THAT, LEAST QUARRY Could PUNCH HUH lamotta?
thou good old jake did score a Knockdown on his ex- wife once. (split decision)
    congratulations tyson's biggest win
However Tyson hits the deck, you might as well eat your bet ticket, cause he not getting up, or for that matter getting off the stool!, least you'd have something on your stomach.
He Bites Quarry, Jerry will bite him back! (COUNTER-Bite)

Jerry threw a punch , missed off balance and Floyd tapped him on the shoulder, even Patterson admitted it was no knockdown, RIVILS WEPNER STEPPING ON ALI'S FOOT WITH THOSE SKIES, AND WEAK PUSH TO THE BACK.

that seventh rouund un-knockdown saved the Draw for Floyd really, I hear so many say Floyd actually won, Even Patterson knew California knockdowns earned you a 2 point round.
Jack Quarry always stated Patterson was the great of the eight , going into the tournament.
i've of course seen the fight, and I can honestly say it was a draw, especially with the scoring system. And a Quarry win minus 7 -Round knockdown.

Jerry was 3-2-1 , with 3 knockouts when he was himself knocked down (7) very few fighter's have a winning record after they hit the deck! BTW whats "IRON MIKE'S" record when he's bit the dust rather than holyfield's ear?
