If Fury wins, at 26 years of age, would that make Davison the youngest head trainer of a heavyweight champion in history? Who are some other young trainers who've had world champions?
30. I like the trend of young trainers being sports scientists as well to coach the athlete as well as boxing aspects. McGuigan is top notch.
Davison seems talented, but I was a little worried with Tyson taking him seriously in camp with Davison being as young as he is. It was a good decision by Fury to bring in Roach, who will also be in the corner.
Probably...people have to realize it's ability not age just like fighting that counts. We also have social media which is a major advantage for dissecting fights..of course you still need brains to do do that so it takes natural intuition to train someone correctly. I can usually spot a weakness within one minute, I remember telling a fighter watch out for a certain punch when he was in training just from a glance saw his weak spot ...well he didn't listen bc I wasn't his trainer and he got knocked out by that punch where he had an opening in round one the next week... Davison with Roach and Hatton as second eyes spell immanent doom for Wilder s dopey corner of Fury is on the ball who himself is smart enough to be a step ahead anyway so it's like 4 people against Wilder.....lol
I think either way, nobody's head trainer is emerging from this one as suddenly a household name. (if Jay Deas, for instance, hadn't become one by now, seven defenses into a WBC reign, why on earth would this fight change that?)
I think that's because it doesn't look like he has crafted some master games plan.. Most fights is just wilder swinging for the fences, getting outboxed and landing a hail mary.
You need to watch more of his fights. Wilder is quite crafty. He can box. But his **** poor technique is what shines the most. I don´t like Wilder at all, but his ring IQ is vastly underrated. It doesn't matter if you technique is bad as long as you know how to set up your punches. What Wilder lacks is defense. This is why they should have fixed his technique years ago, but they didn't. They instead doubled down on his offensive ability.
Not for the want of trying would be my bet. Anyway I agree he's a better boxer than he's often given credit for.
I doubt Wilders skills in the ring will have Jay Deas phone ringing off the hook anytime soon . As opposed to Furys corner, will be interesting to see how the corner dynamics works. No doubt Roach and Hatton would love to be coaching Fury on the big stage.
Davidsons lack of experience is a concern but Fury made a good point that Peter had no experience on this level either. Fury is essentially training himself since Davidson can't teach him anything he doesn't know already. He seems to greatly motivate Tyson though and they bond well together so that so good thing since he needs to have a strong state of mind going into a fight like this. Fury would probably be as happy for Ben as he would be for himself if he won, thats the type of person he is. Ben Davidson aka Jeff Bridges from Against All Odds(1984)
