With only seconds left in the round, I think he should have had a chance to go back to the corner and recover. Strange decision.
The ref would have left that continue, he was not sending Lara back to neutral corner. Lara would have sent Wood to the shadow realm with the next punch, but as a champion and a puncher he deserved the chance to be sent to the shadow realm or turn it around.
Heavy knockdown. Gets up, is on shaky legs and looks disoriented. Doesn't adequately respond to referees orders so the fight should've been called off there anyway otherwise why even have that procedure? Lara leaves the neutral corner and is ready to pounce and finish the job. Apparently there were 'only' ten seconds left of the round. It's not established whether Davison even knew that but even if he did it's enough time to unleash a ten punch combination on a guy that is out of it. It was a perfectly good stoppage. Davison had plenty of reason to make that call and he had to do it in the moment, not from an armchair at home with a beer in his hand.
Not only stood directly behind him but was also pushing him out of the way with his glove so he could get to Wood!
100% agree. People are going on Wood's emotional reaction to being stopped as evidence he was fine to carry on - he was still on jelly legs after going back to the corner. If you compare it to an early stoppage like Froch-Groves 1 it's not in the same league.
It was dumb, if Lara had time to come steaming back in and land a big one on him then throw it in as he's about to unload but not then, it was so stupid. He should have been shouting advice to Wood on how to survive the last few seconds so they could assess the situation and then see if he could continue. If the Davison towel throw logic was applied across boxing history the careers of some of the greatest could look very different.
lol your right and no matter what other posters say that's breaking of rules. Woods corner should of been screaming at the ref that lara was behind him and not in neutral corner.
Highly unlikely Wood was recovering from that, he was in another dimension when he hit the floor.good call from Davison imo
Lara took all Wood's best punches and only a matter of time before he got flattened with an even more brutal punch.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. Usually with that amount of time left you’d want them to carry on but he was absolutely out of it. I think Davison expected the ref to call it off tbf and I’m surprised he didn’t. When he didn’t and signalled to continue that’s when the towel came in.
