What's the argument for pulling him a few seconds later? He was wobbling for a while once he was back in his corner. The best decision I have seen a corner make. He can now come and fight another day rather than get sent to sleep Infront of his own fans. With the cards he can legitimately invoke that rematch clause and people will be interested in the fight
Wood has displayed good recovery in fights before, many thought he was totally done against Conlon. I know Lara is a totally different proposition but still, I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibilities that he could have spent a round or two surviving, boxing smart and grinding it out. We'll never know.
He would have made it to the end of the round easily and then they'd have a minute to assess. He was up on the cards and was doing well. Greats wouldn't be made if their corners threw in the towel the first time they got hurt in a match. Fighters should be questioning having Davison in their corner, as he loves the attention. It's like in the fury fight where he was faffing about trying to jump into the ring.
I'd imagine there are far more examples of fighters being sent to another dimension shortly after being waved on than there are of against all odds legendary comebacks. This isn't Rocky.
True but this was a World Title fight, not a fight early on a card, there was a hell of a lot at stake and Wood had boxed very well all night prior to this.
I think Davidson knows his own fighter better than you who seem to think he’s Muhammad Ali or Diego Corrales “ugh Boxercise Ben, so arrogant that he doesn’t think of his fighter’s safety, he just sent him back out to get killed” - this forum in an alternate timeline
Fair enough if that's how you see it. I didn't see the rest of the fight so I don't have that context. From just watching the ending I'm really surprised people are even debating it.
I think there was the suggestion Angelo Dundee used smelling salts in Ali's corner on that particular occasion. Still a valid point you make. He may well of recovered.
I understand your view and can’t disagree because we will never know the outcome. What I do know is I have watched enough boxers get absolutely pole axed when going back into the mix after being hurt. Ten seconds is a long time, it may not seem much, but is more than enough time for Lara to tee off and seriously hurt Wood. Ifs, buts and maybes I know and I don’t disagree with you, but I personally believe it was a good call in that particular match up.
