Article on BBC Sport http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/boxing/29520846 He is a top notch writer. Always enjoy his articles. Had a funny chance meeting with him at the Froch Groves II weigh in. As I said to him at the time great writer but terrible name!!! Anyway it's a good read.
His writing style is nice to read, his knowledge is non-existent. Typical BBC writer, jack of all trades, master of none. Still worth reading though, the likes of Greaves are fascinating characters. Whilst that's not taking a dive, in effect it's fixing the fight.
Thanks for sharing. A good read and a life many of us struggle to get our heads around. I suppose it's an honourable role being a journeyman and providing for your family, but I just hope that in later years, once they retire from the ring, health implications don't take their toll too much and they are able to continue to provide.
No mate - that is wide of the mark. Any solid journeyman can expect to earn between £1.5k - £2k per fight. Remember they're not selling tickets, drawing a crowd etc. usually the up and coming boys that they're fighting aren't on much more than that, and that usually includes percentages of tickets sold etc.
For a four round fight a journeyman will get around £1k standard rate more if circumstances dictate, more rounds etc.The prospect selling the tickets is basically paying for the journeyman's purse.
