I think Elorde and Villaflor may have split a couple of bouts...maybe...depending on which Bern showed up. Elorde, as good as he was, could he hurt...and stopped, and Ben Villaflor was a very good puncher. Howevah,...Ben could be troubled by a slick boxer, as Sammy Serrano demonstrated, first in that dreadful draw decision, and then for real, when he trounced Ben and precipitated his foe's early retirement at 23. It's more likely that the wily AND slick Elorde cops a close points decision. BTW, thanks for featuring Ben Villaflor...he gets ignored more than most ex-champions IMO. I guess I would rate Elorde a bit higher than Villaflor.
Obviously rate Elorde higher. Both are arguably top 10 super feathers though. Elorde’s win over Laguna more impressive than anything Villaflor did. And as Big Ben was quite passive sometimes, I doubt he’d be as proactive as Ortiz was in pressuring Elorde and just generally wasn’t as skilled at breaking guys down. So Elorde would beat him on points over 15. I have little doubt.
Should make this a round robin of Filipino southpaw super featherweights with Rolando Navarette and Manny Pacquiao.
