What was most alarming to me about Buatsi’s performance was his lack of ring IQ. He hurt Smith several times which is when he should have moved on the gears but either he would not or could not.
I really don't think Smith was that hurt either time and he recovered almost immediately and if you rush in on him there's a real risk of walking into something nasty and even though Buatsi got hit loads he was still wary of doing that and rightfully so. One of the shots which appeared to make Smith's legs slightly dip was a back of the mind shot. The legal shot which actually noticeably hurt him was a body shot and, as said, he recovered very quickly and was firing back with dangerous shots of his own soon after IIRC
Beterbiev has been dropped twice by C level fighters. Morrell is a huge puncher and rocked David but never dropped him. Not sure if you are joking about Peter Berg a movie director being a credible source about anything boxing related. He would not even know who Benavidez is imo. The idea the boxing world was sitting on Bivol knocking down Benavidez in sparring for 7 years until Berg exposed it is laughable. Benavidez is quite a different fighter than Beterbiev also, the way he pressures opponents and sets traps is actually more intelligent and crafty than Beterbiev who just comes forward trying to destroy as fast as possible. Bivol was apparently smashing everyone in sparring but decided to stop trying when a 21 year old Benavidez got in the ring with him. Bivol will be in trouble if he dares to fight Benavidez and he knows it. This content is protected
Keep on deluding yourself and believing the hype at your own peril. @Serge and I were two of the biggest backers of Benavidez on here, from the outset. I was the first to make a thread hyping him back in 2015, a decade ago after seeing him obliterate Felipe Romero. David Benavidez: El Bandera Roja-Red Flag The Super Middleweight Phoenix Mexecutioner But ever since then, I've been slowly losing faith, to the point where I'm rarely impressed with any of his showings. He just went life and death with Morrell, a guy who by all rights, should have lost to Beterbiev's leftovers in Kalajdzic and before that, he gassed out and gave up the last 5 rounds to Gvozdyk, who was coming off of a semi-retirement, which he was beaten into by Beterboev. He couldn't put a dent in either of them. It's more than obvious the man is a weight bully, who's been feasting on no hopers or middleweights he drug up a division. Because fighting in his rightful division, he's yet to impress. His gas tank is for **** and his power severely faded, all he has now is his volume. Whereas Bivol is coming off of two of the best matches in recent LHW history, against a guy with a 100% KO ratio. Who manhandles and mauls everyone he's set foot in the ring with. It's more than obvious who the better fighter is between Beterbiev and Benavidez, since they have a shared opponent. Benavidez won't get past Bivol he wouldn't even get past Beterbiev. Who you can criticize his chin all you want, but you know as well as I that the knockdown against Page was about as valid as Benavidez's knockdown against Morrell. Beterbiev was moving backward and off balance. As far as Callum Johnson goes, he's a B level fighter, with A level power. I even predicted he had a chance, due to that power before the match on the RBR, and said Beterbiev needed to be super careful. Here's the reality, Benavidez has regressed as a pro and is a shell of what he was at 21, whereas Bivol has gotten better and better. Also his chin at this point, after sharing the ring with some murderous punchers, is beyond proven. David gets dogwalked.
Very true. He's still one of my current favourite fighters but he has some really annoying fans and I preferred him when he was El Bandera Rojo. I didn't like how he boasted about hurting Bivol in sparring given how Bivol is one of the most humble, likeable and respectful fighters out there and they're amicable with each other I didn't like how he boasted about hurting Gvozdyk in sparring and then when he couldn't put a dent in Gvozdyk's ghost he immediately launched into excuses overdrive But I'm still a big fan of his and like him. Re. Beterbiev getting dropped by Callum Johnson - the other KD, as you say, was a shove followed by a sneaky punch whilst Beterbiev was off balance from the shove Seanie Monaghan who has sparred Beterbiev and fought or sparred many other big punchers said Johnson is a massive puncher and that he might have the heaviest hands of anyone he's shared a ring with. And you can hear how heavy and thudding Johnson's hooks are
Agree with everything you said here, especially about how repulsive his fans are becoming. Although David with one excuse after another is starting to lose me, his ego is starting to get inflated, and he's growing more grating and unbearable by the day.
I blame Mike Tyson for coining The Mexican Monster moniker for him. His previous one was cool as hell
Voted Bivol by decision but I think it would be an entertaining fight. Benavidez is tough and I think he would come to fight. He just would be over matched
I find it strange you have been losing faith with Benavidez while he has been having one of the best 4 fight runs in boxing by beating Plant, Andrade, Gvozdyk, and Morrell. I guess if you knit pick and try and minimise all those opponents I guess you can get to that conclusion. In reality he comfortable beat 4 very tough skilled opponents with a grand total of 2 losses between them, yet apparently he got exposed. Morrell is one of the best young fighters in the sport today, with all the tools, but because he struggled with a solid and awkward Kaljdsic it means he sucks. You could literally do that with every fighter in the sport. Gvozdyk had 3 tune ups in 2023, he was fresh and in the best physical shape of his life with only 20 pro fights, yet David beat him comfortably at his first fight at the weight, no tune up, yet the narrative we hear is Gvozdyk was 100 years old and retired. That is just hating. It was a great win over a strong fighter. There is zero evidence Gvozdyk was over the hill at 37. Most of Sunny Edwards and Canelos best wins are opponents in their mid 30s, but you never hear that criticism, they just rave and put them p4p. Lets see Bivol and eddie send that contract over and prove it then. Talk is cheap. I predict he fights Callum Smith. Callum Johnson is a british level fighter with a 65% Ko ratio. Benavidez has an 80% KO ratio who was able to walk down an aggressive power puncher like Morrell. I guess that means Morrells power was overrated as well. What excuses? He beat down 4 high level opponents in a row, the only excuses he had was for busted up hands against Gvozdyk which were factual. David is one of the few fighters in the sport today fighting the opponents the fans want with no fear. Everyone thought he was ducking Morrell so he fought him just for the fans, and put on a great fight, and just wants to fight the champion yet he gets so much hate and accused of just being a weight bully. He just beat 2 bigger opponents at 175 and is still called a weight bully, what the hell lol./
You said it! The ghost of Sullivan Barrera managed to badly stun Hot Rod multiple times, and Morrell never came close to putting a dent in him. The rest of this nonsense I'll respond to later.
Me too, though I'm beginning to think it'll be a better fight than the lopsided poll results indicate
benavidez will give him a harder fight than beterbiev did. a question of styles. and youth. if it will be enough to win remains to be seen.
Mungia went 12 rounds with Canelo yet got knocked out with 1 punch by a guy with a 10% KO ratio, I guess that means that french uber driver hit harder than Canelo. Mungia destroyed ryder and stopped him, while Ryder went 12 with Canelo. I guess Mungia hits harder than Canelo. I could go on and on why this logic is poor. Morrell is a beast and David's win will age very well imo.
Bivol is the favorite here for me, but he’s not great on the inside. Benavidez will def make this a tough fight. 60/40 in Bivols favor for me. Mexican Monster is not bum ass Zurdo.
