He has been calling him out for years, true, but I'm just referring to the announcement of his intention to move up to 175 in June and campaign at that weight. Given that David is in position to get the fight as a mandatory, him moving up to 175 is not consistent with someone who wants the fight. But as I said earlier, I'm trying not to jump to conclusions. I think we should wait to see what happens, when we find out who Canelo will fight in May / Sept and what the situation is, but I'm in agreement that these two need to fight within the next 6 months. When I heard this news about him moving up to 175, it was a surprising because of how much David has been chasing the Canelo fight.
Becoming mandatory does not mean he will get the fight, it changes nothing because the WBC will not enforce it. He should have been mandatory when he beat Plant. Suliman threw him a bone by creating a bogus interm WBC belt at 175 to get him off Canelos back at 168. Canelo is being chased in 4 divisions, every fighter in the sport would take that fight in a second even 147 pounders so the idea David might not want the fight, is the dumbest idea in the history of boxing. Only an idiot would even consider that.
I would remind you that Sulaiman made it very clear that Canelo must fight Benavidez this year. Now I understand that you don't believe he really means that, but that's what I'm basing it on. If it's a matter of Benavidez not being offered enough $$, but still able to force the fight, for example, then that's a reason why he wouldn't agree to terms, particularly because Showtime is no longer doing boxing and putting on PPVs. So it's not "idiotic" to surmize that Benavidez may decline a PBC offer if he's not being guaranteed enough. Clearly Sulaiman wants to make the fight, but if he's a man of his word, and if David does not agree to a PBC offer, then Sulaiman should force purse bids, as long as David enforces his mandatory status. But for David to not agree to PBC's offer, and then to not force purse bids, and instead choosing to fight at 175 in June, I don't know how else we could interpret that as Benavidez ducking the fight. Your view is that you believe Sulaiman would go out of his way to protect Canelo, and not force him to fight Benavidez this year, despite what he said, despite the fact that David has every right to force purse bids if he doesn't agree to the PBC offer. You're far more cynical of the WBC than I am, which is fine, that's your view but don't call me idiotic for simply going by how the official process is supposed to work.
But still, that gives Banavidez a built-in excuse should be lose to Canelo in September. Lets say he fights at 175 in June, wins then accepts a Canelo fight in September. Then we'll have people claiming Canelo is fighting him on a short camp against a weight-drained Benavidez. I don't want any excuses, which is why I'm against him fighting at 175 in June if he intends on fighting Canelo in September. I don't want excuses.
DB is whooping this version of Canelo. Canelo has no head movement, doesn't work behind the jab, doesn't set up his shots., just loads up and lest the fly. He needs to get back to the old Canelo that kept him in the P4P conversation.
Wrong, I gave my opinion that Morrell is young, in his prime & a top 5 super middleweight & that he's a better fight than Gvozdyk. You don't have to agree with that opinion. You claimed that Morrell had already declined a fight with Benavidez. Now you can provide proof of that claim or admit you don't have any. Let's see if you have any integrity
I already posted the link last week to the statement : https://www.marca.com/en/boxing/2024/02/18/65d26b2922601d2e408b45cc.html "Mauricio Sulaiman, the president of the World Boxing Council (WBC), has made it clear that Canelo Alvarez, the world super middleweight champion, must face David Benavidez in 2024. This fight, which has been in the works for several months, is a mandatory bout that Canelo must fulfill, otherwise he would be forced to relinquish his title."
This is literally a cherry pick by Benavidez if we go by Canelo hater standards. Lmao. If he wins and goes on to become a bigger star it will retroactively be a cherry pick. In all his honesty, this is a dangerous fight for Benavidez. I could see him getting KO'd.
