It's a summary of what he said. I didn't respond to your post because I didn't have a specific quote. I responded to vast because he accused me of being a liar, and in response I pointed out that I already shared a link detailing the WBC position. The article also stated "Sulaiman did not provide a specific date for the fight, but he mentioned that the WBC will set Benavidez as the mandatory challenger from March onwards. However, Canelo will be free to face another opponent in May if he chooses to do so." From what I understand, the process once a mandatory is set is that the Champion must fight the mandatory within 12 months of that date. Doing the math, that means if Benavidez is set as the mandatory in March, and if Canelo fights in May and September, that would mean that he would have to fight him in September (or before March 2025) or he'll be stripped. Since Canelo does not typically fight between October and March, that would mean that he apparently would have to fight Benavidez is September if he wants to remain Undisputed Champion, which of course is why Benavidez announcing that he'll be fighting in 175 in June doesn't make any sense if he intends on fighting Canelo in either May or September. And if you don't understand that, if you aren't able to put that together based on this article, then you may be the slow poke rodriguez to my speedy gonzales.
Which means he never said Benavidez must fight Canelo this year. So don't lie next time. Benavidez would have to wait another year only for Canelo to drop the belt anyway because its obvious he does not want to fight him. He won't care about dropping the belt, and that is even if the WBC enforces its own rules which it often does not. Suliman pledged in late 2022, that the winner of Plant Benavidez would be made Mandatory for Canelo and it still has not even happened.
When did I lie? The news source stated that "Mauricio Sulaiman, the president of the World Boxing Council (WBC), has made it clear that Canelo Alvarez, the world super middleweight champion, must face David Benavidez in 2024." I would also advise you not to parrot the talking points of the vast character. This vast guy seems to have some pent up rage bottled up towards me, and is looking for any opportunity to cast me in a negative light. This is what butthurt does, but unfortunately for him the article makes it quite clear that according to Mr. Sulaiman Canelo must face him this year, so you calling me a liar when it says exactly that is quite a stretch, and is also reaffirmed by doing the math about when he would be set as mandatory and the time table of Canelo's May and September routine, this not only has vast looking like a desperate fool but also you as slow poke rodriguez for not being able to put this together yourself, and then trying to piggyback on the butthurt vast's attempts at casting me as a liar. This is pathetic behavior from the two of you, and I would advise you to course correct before this gets any worse. No, he wouldn't have to wait another year, because we know Canelo only fights in May and September. Theoretically he could wait until March of next year, but that's not when he typically fights. If he refuses to fight Benavidez by September, that means he couldn't wait until May 2025 and retain Undisputed. Meaning, practically speaking, he must fight Benavidez by September (provided Benavidez enforces his mandatory status and presumably stays in the weight class). By the way, what did Sulaiman say in late 2022 pledging that the winner of Plant Benavidez would be made mandatory? You may have a point there, but provide the quote for full disclosure. Still, that doesn't change the situation that exists presently and my desire to want to see the two fight this year, in either May or September, regardless of what the WBC requires out of Canelo.
Canelo gets held to a higher standard because he's the undisputed champion. Benavidez gets held to a lower standard because he's an outstanding contender.
Y'all still arguing? PBC can't make the Benavidez fight. I wouldn't be surprised if Benavidez leaves PBC.
PBC can't make any major fight with big Guarantees. The reason Jaime was an option for PBC was because GBP would fork up half the money if not more.
Cool story. Seems like a good reason to try and strong arm a struggling company into paying him 35 million to fight alcoholics with mental health issues.
WTF are you talking about? Lmao What part of PBC can't front the money for a Canelo meg fight. PBC never made Canelo an offer to fight Benavidez. Why? Because clearly they couldn't come up with the money. Look, now that we know all this, you look like a food arguing until you were blue in the face that Canelo was ducking Benavidez.
Don't listen to me, IsaL. Listen to everything Canelo Alvarez has ever said regarding a matchup with David Benavidez.
Good. Listen to your hero, then. What has he said about facing David Benavidez for the past two years now, IsaL?
2022- Bivol 2022- 3G Rubbermatch 2023- Ryder mandatory 2023- Charlo Now what has Benavidez done the last 4 years?
No one is arguing Benavidez is greater than Canelo. The problem is Benavidez should have had a title shot by now, which you prove yourself by listing the people Canelo faced instead.
