"Let's be honest. Canelo will never fight David. We know that. I don't think that fight is going to happen. No way. It's all excuses when they say he doesn't deserve that fight and has nothing to offer. Canelo doesn't want to fight him. And I understand. David is younger." “Another bigger reason why he doesn't want to fight David is that he doesn't want another Mexican to take that win. He'll fight anybody, but not a Mexican guy because if a Mexican beats him, they take all of his fame and position. If he fights someone else from another country, nothing happens." “He doesn't want to fight him now, and he won't want to fight two or three years later when he's older because he's going to take a beating. David will be in his prime. But who knows. The more questions he hears about David, the madder he gets. Maybe he'll wake up really mad one day and want to fight David. We would take that fight right away.” — Jose Benevidez Sr.
Nice try at reverse psychology from Sr. This guy's been desperate for that Canelo peydey for quite some time now.
True enough but at least David was talking about Plant, Charlo, and Morrell tonight. Besides Charlo, the other two offer approximately zero reward (Plant just got KO'd and Morrell has very low name recognition) and are credible threats. I thought that was pretty cool. It made me hopeful that he's going to get back on track.
this is true cant let him age like he did ggg either send him through the gauntlet and hope hes to war torn to bring anything to the ring or just keep that name out ya mouth clenella
It's hard to look good against David Benavidez. I don't think it's a fight that Canelo wants or needs. But if Canelo waits him out and ends up fighting him a few years down the road, it's only going to get harder for Canelo to beat David Benavidez as Canelo gets older and as David comes into his prime. David Benavidez might be outgrowing 168, remember he lost his title on the scales. At 175 a fight would only favor Benavidez more than it would at 168 which I think most would still favor Canelo at. But it's a tough fight for Canelo and I don't think it's as big of a fight now than other fights are for Canelo. David Benavidez said he wants to fight Plant next, I think that's a good measuring stick fight for David to see if he's ready for Canelo. I just don't think that's who Plant wants to fight in a comeback fight. Plant needs an easy win to shake off the cobwebs of the loss to Canelo and David Benavidez is not the guy to bounce back against.
