At welter Ray beat Benitez because he couldn`t slip or parry Ray`s fast jab, Chavez didn`t posess that kind of jab, so I lean towards Wilfredo, I don`t know if he was quite as sharp at 140 though, so that could make a difference in the outcome to.
That "teenage with a 2 week training camp" soundly outpointed Cervantes, whom many here (including myself) believe that Chavez doesn't beat.
That Benitez barely beat by a hair and old and near the end of his Career Cervantes, he had slowed down a ton. that Benitez does not beat a Prime Cervantes, so no way he beats Chavez, I just saw a post here the other night, asking people to re-watch Benitez-Cervantes and score it, i did, I had Benitez by 1 round, with 2 even, so take the 2 even and it could have gone either way. So no, that Benitez in no way beats Chavez.
Julio would zone in on that body for the first 7 or 8 rounds. El Radar was a tough target upstairs, a body beating has made mice out of many slick boxers.
Cervantes was 30, had beaten Esteban DeJesus less than a year earlier, and after getting the title back, held it for another 3 years.
Anybody who thinks Benitez only beat Cervantes "by one round" is either incredibly biased or can't score fights. Benitez clearly beat Cervantes. He clearly beat Palomino as well. That's another fight that people for whatever reason think was close, when it wasn't.
Don't let the truth get in the way of his fantasy narrative. Pryor beat a Cervantes that was at the end of the road. Benitez beat a still prime Cervantes.
