Exactly. People forget this fight was almost close to being made until HAMSHO mugged Benitez on his way up to middleweight.
Benitez does not have the strength to campaign at middleweight and Hagler would have knocked him out.

Benitez was a slouch when it came to putting an offensive effort together - I don’t think Hager not catching him often will be an issue, because Wilfred won’t create the opportunities to even hit Marvin, he’ll just slip and slide and look for gimmes, The Marvellous one wins in a fight similar to the Duran one IMO.

I’d sure rather have watched that than Marvin vs. Caveman Lee or Fully Obel (much less for a second time).

A motivated and well-trained Benitez would go the distance and maybe even be some kind of moral victor similar to Duran.

I found the WBC middleweight title eliminator from 1983 when Benitez lost to Hamsho -

In all fairness, Wilfred Benitez though very talented did tend to be a little weak in the chin at times, his reflexes and quickness were evident, no doubt but he staggered quite easy. If Marvelous Marvin Hagler catches Benitez, I do think at some point during a fight, it could be goodnight for Benitez, Hagler did have a punch to accomplish that.

Hagler would get him comfortable making his defensive movements, and then not only start pressing him harder in deeper water but doing it in a switched stance
