Let's say, there was no Hagler and Benitez wins his 4th title, say, a WBA version and his first defense comes against Juan Domingo Roldan, fresh off a KO win over Animal Fletcher. Can Wilfred frustrate Roldan into submission? my analysis tells me that Roldan is even slicker on defense than Wilfred and his unpredictable attack never lets Wilfred demonstrate those wonderful boxing skills The take here is that Roldan's bludgeoning attack and thunderous fists, punches Wilfred to pieces for a brutal tko (Matthew Hilton style)
Never saw Roldan as a defensive slickster he was a come forward, let it all hang out kind of guy,Fast hands and good power. I think he finds Wilfred's chin at some point and stops him.
you must watch him in the Hagler fight. I got the impression he was taking Hagler to school Then came the third when the action heated up and Marvelous shut his eye closed with that uppercut which swung the fight in Marvin's favor. another good example is the Kinchen fight. You cannot BOX Roldan, he gives you no chance and took James out of his rhythm but what went wrong in the Hearns fight?
Hearns had speed and could punch also.. Kinchen did not have the power Hearns did to keep Roldan off him
Juan (El Martillo AKA The Hammer) Roldan would stand a good chance against Roberto Hands Of Stone Duran, but Duran has better stamina.
He did, albeit briefly. Had he beaten Mustafa Hamsho a shot at Hagler might have been next for him. But he lost and by 1983, he was already past his best.
Duran at middleweight and even jr middle had poorer stamina. He pooped out in the Sims fight, pooped out in the Hagler fight and Hagler wasnt pushing him that hard whereas if you look at Roldan challenging Hagler for the title a few months later, gave Hagler the fight of his life, expecially in the first two rounds. If you ask me, I'd say Roldan would whip both Duran and Benitez, and probably get them late
