I was watching Ringside with SRL last night on Classic. I had seen a handful of SRL fights, but it was cool watching him come up. He was an absolute beast. He finished fights with a mean streak when he was coming up. Anywho, he fought Wilfred Benitez for the world title when he was 24 and Benitez was only 21. Benitez first won a title at 17, which is hard for me to imagine, I was just trying to make my basketball team at the time. Of course they only showed SRL's positive parts being the focus of the show was on him, but I wanted to hear some conversation about this fight. There is no way nowadays you would see a 24 year old challenger fighting the 21 year old CHAMPION for a title. Come to think of it you don't see many world champions at all until closer to 30. On a side note, and by no means am I an SRL hugger, but he did fit a lot of big time fights in his career despite only fighting 40 times. Interestingly enough he said didn't even want to turn pro, but only did so to help pay his dad's medical bills. He made an unprecedented, at the time, 14,000 in his debut.
