Really nice little fight that, even with nothing at stake (not sure why Sasaki's national JBC super welterweight Youth title wasn't on the line, though - maybe Hamashima is aged out at 28?)

People in the YouTube comments thought scoring was too wide on two judges' cards, which I agree with, but I'm not seeing anyone dispute the result. Sasaki was the hometown fighter and does have the more fan- and judge-friendly style, but he still objectively earned this fair & square.

Lots of room for Adios to improve, though. His defense is very susceptible to uppercuts, and he lets his work rate seriously lapse when things aren't going his way. He's only 21, so time's on his side with ironing out those wrinkles.

The official promoter of record is Kōki Kameda, but I'm guessing he's just a figurehead as the most famous family member...his brother Daiki (former WBA flyweight and IBF super flyweight titlist) appears to be the man in charge, running the show.

Ruku Sasaki vs. Takeshi Inoue could be fun in a year or so (by which time Inoue will be 35).

There isn't much else to shoot for; not a ton of depth at 154lb in Japan.

@Chuck Norris @CST80 @Drew101 weigh in... a few people are calling this controversial but IMO this was a case of the rightful winner but a couple of too-wide cards.

Besides, accusing the Kamedas (who long have been rumored to have Yakuza connections) of corruption is kind of like shooting fish in a barrel. :sisi1

After yesterday's cards and Stage 1 of the Tour de France, I'm so mentally worn out, I can barely focus. But I'll try to get around to it in a day or two.

I'd agree with rightful winner with too wide cards. Im just happy when the right guy gets the nod nowadays.

    Round 1 Hamashima 10-9, close

Evenly contested round, but I liked Yuki's jab and cleaner work better, capped off round with wicked counter hoo that stunned Sasaki.

    Round 1 Hamashima 10-9, close
    Round 2 Sasaki 10-8

Ruku working the body with left hooks, then stuns Yuki with a one two, follows up and drops him. Yuki steadies the ship with body shots they trade low blows. Ruku rocks him with a hook, they trade hooks throughout the second half and Yuki returns the favor.

    Round 3 Sasaki 10-9, close

Yuki did some sold body work and battered him with the jab, but I thought Ruku's occasional counter hooks up top, including the ones that stunned him late, were a little more impressive.

    Round 3 Sasaki 10-9, close
    Round 4 Hamashima 10-9

Yuki picked and pecked his way in, making openings in the first minute, then he landed cuffing hooks for a spell, which evolved into one twos from range, a few heavy hooks late from Ruku wasn't enough to flip the round.

While Hamashima was the more consistent of the two, especially the the body, the pulverizing counter hooks of Sasaki were far more eye catching.
