It's exactly this and those around him that are ruining what he's doing. I'd have no problem if he was doing what he's doing and saying that he's taking things slow and looking to go up a level but it's been noise for around two years now and the focus is unashamedly about money while trying to masquerade as a fight anyone anywhere type, he called out Shawn Porter before ffs. He was born into millions, he's never had to do a day job, if you're going to talk big stop calling out has beens, we've already seen a load of them get beaten, it's time for some proper fights.
Avanesyan is 33 and isn't shot, so Benn might be waiting at least three years before he has the cobbles to get in there and fight Avanesyan. My guess is that Benn tries to get a fight with the loser of Khan vs Brook, then the winner of Khan vs Brook, both at 147.
Taylor is absolutely proven. So if Taylor goes up to 147 after the Catterall fight and calls Benn out, offering to take only 30%, Benn will still bottle it.
Saw Mikey Garcia got a mention on his Instagram yesterday… another that has only had 2 fights in the last 3 years and lost his last fight… Matchroom are clearly going down the AJ plan of trying to find anyone with a name that are past their best and get the casuals on board, find the easiest possible world title and make Benn out to be a killer. Interesting how he doesn’t even acknowledge anyone with a current good record or belt… Penaud showed that they don’t want anything to do with a puncher or someone who will fight back
Not a bad fight at all but Martin is dangerous and unknown. So it won't happen. Shades of Ritson Patera there. I think the Brook Khan winner or maybe even looser is more likely. It just depends how much money Eddie is prepared to throw around. My guess is lots. .... Benns got the name, a highlight real KO to marker over former world champ etc etc you know how the hype machine rolls.
I genuinely don't think Khan will touch that fight. I've seen the way he reacts a few times when it gets mentioned..... don't see it happening. Brook on the other hand, I think he'd be game but it would come down to making 147 and he can't make it anymore. 149 against Khan will kill him never mind 147.
Yeah you could be right. It would be a strange one for Khan (if he beats Brook) but maybe if Eddie throws huge money at him he takes it for a payday. Even now Khan would be the quickest fighter Benn has faced by a mile.
Because Benn and Hearn both know that people like Spence, Crawford, Porter, Danny Garia, Ennis, Ortiz, and Avanesyan would derail the hype train. Even Ugas, who is by far the weakest World Champion at Welterweight, would give Benn a doing. As has been said, Benn will likely go down the path of least resistance and fight names such as Keith Thurman (if he's as far gone as people say he is), Mikey Garcia, Robert Guerrero, Victor Ortiz, Adrien Broner, Kell Brook and Amir Khan in a concerted effort to hoodwink the casuals who will then think to themselves, "Oh, this guy knocked out Amir Khan! He must be great!" As a side note on Broner, I wonder how close he is to Bernard Hopkins? I say this because it might well help Broner to have someone like Hopkins -- noted for his iron discipline and always being in shape -- to be a mentor of sorts to Broner, to help instill that discipline and love of training in Broner and get Broner's career back on track. Of course, in order for something like this to reap the rewards, Broner has to want it himself.
I'm sure Brook would force himself down to 147 if Hearn offered him a massive amount of money fight Benn.
Even with Brook struggling to make 147, he's still too big of a danger for Benn. Only way that fight gets made is if its on PPV, worth taking then for Benn. Until Brook got stopped, he was very competitive with Crawford in the early rounds. He's still levels above Benn skill wise and he carries decent power. They'll try target Khan and hope he can overwhelm a shot Khan who hardly fights anymore.
