I thought Benn won the second fight and deserved another fight. I'm guessing a 3rd fight would also have done big business and made both fighters quite a bit of money so unless I'm wrong there's no excuse that there wasn't enough money in it. Anyone know why they didn't fight again?
Benn felt he had proved a point in the rematch and to be fair prob did enough to win quite handily but Eubank again hypnotized the judges. Those were the days.
Didn't Eubank sign his big money Sky 'bum of the month' deal shortly after their 2nd fight? One of the 'bums' was Steve Collins, and that was that.
You just reminded me there. I seem to recall Eubank getting a few controversial decisions in the 90s. I can't remember which fights they were mind but it happened on at least 3 occasions.
He lost to Ray Close in a fight that was scored a draw that I remember clearly enough. I think Dan Sherry was giving him a good run as well before the fight was stopped on a TD. Malinga??? I think it was gave him a good go as well and I think it was a SD
are you a spastic? did you see the inverted comma's? if anything I was attacking Eubank. and I too remember him scoring two robberies, a draw & a win, on his Sky 'bum of the month' contract, think he signed a 10 or 15 fight deal.
Is Ray Close the American guy? Or is that Dan Sherry? I remember the post fight interview with Eubank, you could tell he knew he'd lost & garbled something about the judges scoring it on style rather than aggression.
I had Benn winning handily scoring it live in Manchester, but watching it on TV, I could see how it was scored a draw. The occasion gave the fight a buzz, but watching it again, it is not the most exciting fight, indeed if it were not so close and thus interesting it could of almost been considered boring. I get the feeling both knew what each other had from the previous fight and neither was prepared to go though that type of pain again. And the reason for no third bout was that both could claim something from the rematch, so why bother?
I think that point deduction made the difference for most. Benn too understands that the win rested on that point. It was a shame.
