If you take him at his words he believed Benn wasn't doping. He might not think Whyte is innocent based on what he knows. Those test results for each fighter won't be the same.
He ‘believed’ Whyte when he was the A-side in a Matchroom PPV against Rivas. Even kept the failed test from Rivas despite knowing beforehand. Their behaviour that week was disgusting. How convenient that a few years down the line when Whyte is Joshua’s opponent that he’s pulled from the fight. No messages of support this time from Hearn or promises of investigations.
Why did the Bboc not alert Team Rivas? The only person allowed to reveal such information to third parties was Dillian Whyte due to UKAD confidentiality rulings. In fighting week the following happened Matchroom were not in charge of these proceedings. They don't clear Whyte to fight, the Bboc/UKAD did. Team Rivas being oblivious to such things wasn't right but this was due to UKAD policy. Kell Brook never knew about Amir Khan failing a post fight test because of UKAD policy. As for believing Whyte back then, does this not statement from UKAD only support that belief at the time? https://www.ukad.org.uk/news/ukad-and-mr-dillian-whyte-issue-joint-statement One could make that cynical argument but you look at the losses from the Benn v Eubank cancellation and the value of Benn to the business and you see that whether he was banned or not it really isn't an issue critical to the financial future of the business. Yes he defiantly has commercial value but the idea Hearn is going in to bat for Benn strictly because of commercial value doesn't make sense.
Any boxer failing a drugs test should be suspended immediately and a hearing should take place within 3 months max, an appeal against the decision if applicable within another 3 months max which allows plenty of time for evidence to be submitted. If the drug test failure is upheld then the boxer should be banned for life and there is no reason this process cannot be concluded within 6 months max if there is an appeal. Cheats are earning millions while the clean in many cases are earning a few thousand at best. All wrong.
In all fairness hearn would be a mug to walk away from Benn. Benn would have just singed with Warren after a suspension, anyway. Hearn has done his absloute bollocks on Benn and he needs that pay back. Easier to take Benn at face value and hope for the best. It is a dirty and disgusting sport. Anyone with a brain can see that Benn is dirty as hell
Hearn knew there was a chance that Whyte v Rivas could be postponed so told Rivas’ promoter on fight week that Whyte was carrying an injury and the fight could be called off. Shameless behaviour.
Because we've seen what happens when they try and intervene on Matchroom drug matters. Threats of legal action and getting sued. They don't have a pot to **** in and it's not worth getting involved in a court battle with a man as rich as Hearn.
You don't think they maybe just thought he had a very good chance of avoiding a ban due to the nature of the case? Seems a lot more logical than just hoping Benn manages to avoid a ban. How many fighters have avoided bans after being sanctioned/suspended?
Whataboutism at its finest. Yes it does. Do you seriously believe Hearn would have stood by one of his less popular fighters as strongly?
I do think the fact that Whyte is not signed to Matchroom makes a differrence. No real reason for Eddie to bat for Whyte Con Bent on the other hand. I think Matchroom have given Con Bent advances on top of shelling out a lot on the failed promotion. They want that back. Con Bent is a little runt to Eddie Hearn. Just look at the state of him. Dripping in designer gear. Attitude that deserves a backhander. He's nothing to Eddie. Eddie wants his money back. That's the only reason why he's defended him.
Most punchable face going with that smug crunched up pout he does. He looks like a little naked mole rat.
