He had weight problems before his first bout v Eubank at 160 which is why he gassed, nice point about the natural 175lbs fighters he might have fought, explains Eubank`s chin, but Chris was pretty lousey at cruiser also.

He had a good chin and plenty of courage.pretty one dimensional skills, decent power ,low stamina, and a huge ego which in the ring was a priceless asset to him.I personally never could stand the up his own arse, phoney ****,nor his son who has faced two men of class who were prime , and been badly exposedbyn boths, as a limited fighter who cannot adapt and has no plan B.
There is a theory that in different hands the son would be something,I have to disagree, his insufferable ego means that he cannot face reality,or take coaching and hence will never improve.Chip of the same old block.

    Benn was a massive bully.

A boxer my dad knows fought him as an amateur. Benn gathered a massive entourage of his classless and violent friends in order to intimidate the crowds and other boxers at the venue. He did it at other shows too.

    Pathetic.

He was a warrior in the ring though. Not very likeable though.

Jr isn't in the same stratosphere as Sr.

Yes Sr was an enigma etc but let's not forget he started boxing in the Bronx in the early eighties, as old school as it gets with sparring wars every day and smokers every week, his mentor Adonis Torres told him all about the NYC mobs of the 40s and 50s which is why he seemed paranoid of promoters I guess, he also heard all about Jersey Joe Walcott, JAKE LAMOTTA, Sugar Ray Robinson and Floyd Patterson and was a massive LaMotta and Walcott fan

He came up hard with no money til the Benn fight, which nearly ended him in itself

Lou Gent never fought above 188lbs and had his last 6 fights as a super middle.
Seriously fella ,it isn't amusing anymore, we on Classic find a fool/troll diverting at times. We have our own resident ,court jester in Rasta Goohly ,we don't require another!

He was scum, and openly admits that. But what he achieved was amazing. He didn't spar, smoked, and was suicidal. Mad!

Still the most popular fighter of all time among council estates and public houses. 'Go on, Nige!'
