benn-mcclellan. a question.

Frank AND Don King, Frank wanted Benn to be taught a lesson, nobody gave him a chance vs McClellan, that's why Benn was so wild after the fight.

 

Not sure, even though McClellan suffered how he did after the fight it is the best fight ive ever seen. And Benn is my all time favourite fighter.

I do know that this fight was seen a bit like the Calzaghe Lacy fight, McClellan was fully expected to wipe the floor with Benn it was seen more as a fact than opinion or prediction.

Sounds like they asked him to take a dive. But doubt it, g had what was needed but things didnt follow throgh

 

i dont think benn meant anyone in particular brought mcclellan over to bash him up.i think it was more that everyone expected him to be knocked out and he didnt feel he was given the respect he deserved going into the fight.
the win was a great achievement for benn,mcclellan had some aura about him and countless ko's most of which in the first round or 2.
not taking anything away from benn he was one of the first boxers i followed as a kid but mcclellan had something up with him that night and benn was also lucky to get out of the first round himself the referee was appauling.benn did show great courage and heart though to get the win no question,and he was an awesome boxer to watch

McClellan had just beaten one of the hardest punchers ever in a round and had 3 consecutive 1st round knockouts. Benn was a big underdog and having been stopped and dropped in a number of fights, very few expected Benn to make it out of the early rounds.

When Benn was almost KO'ed in the first round it was pretty much what many experts expected. But everybody underestimated Benn, he had a point to prove and he proved emphatically that he should never be overlooked or seen as a stepping stone.

McClellan lost b/c he was playing russian roulette with his weight...thats the real story.....don't lost like 17 lbs the day before a fight..

 

McClellan lost because he was in against Nigel Benn. End of discussion.

Benn was a different animal, and then some.

 

All he meant was that the odds were against him everyone had him to loose and he proved people wrong that is all.

 

I watched this fight only last week, and it is a great fight some great action throughout the fight. However in retrospect it's uncomfortable viewing watching Benn climbing the ring posts, celebrating wildly and even giving interviews in the ring whilst Mcclennan is layed out prone on the canvas doctors and paramedics working on him!

 

Yeah it's a very uncomfortable fight to watch. At the time I thought I had never seen such a great fight, I was jumping round the house celebrating a great win for Benn. It took me over a decade before I could watch the whole fight again, knowing the aftermath and consequences of what happened that fateful night.
