Benn Beat Barkley And G Man And Should Of Got A Decision Against A Prime Eubank. Joe Has Only Ever Beaten Lacy And An Old Hopkins. Kessler Was A Good Fighter But Not In The League Of The Benn Victims I Mentioned, Obviously Nors Lacy But He Came To Britain With Impressive Credentials. For Calzaghe To Get Close He Would Need To Retire Rjj And Soundly Beat Pavlik
Benn has fought a better quality of opponent: Prime eubank, steve collins, michael watson, gerald mclellan. All of these i consider tougher opponents than calzaghe has faced, bar hopkins and kessler. However, the fact that calzaghe has beaten all fighters puit in front of him means that his resume looks far better.
Yes, you are right. If he beats jones and then fights pavilk (so long as he beats hopkins) or the winner of tarver/dawson then his resume would be better.
It's very difficult to choose between these two in terms of resume. Benn has great wins over Barkley and DeWitt in the US, and good wins over Sugarboy Malinga, Mauro Galvano in Italy, a draw with near-peak Eubank that should have been a win, and a raft of wins over good solid challengers like Piper, Sims, Wharton, and Nardiello. Calzaghe has great wins over Lacy and Kessler, good wins over Hopkins (not as good as the Lacy and Kessler wins because of Hopkins's obvious stamina issues and the ineffectiveness of Joe's performance on the night) and Byron Mitchell, and a raft of decent wins against ok opposition like the older Eubank, Brewer, etc etc. The McClennan win beats anything and everything on Calzaghe's record IMO, but Calzaghe has the advantage of having zero losses on his record. At a push, I'd say Calzaghe, but it's very very close and I can see the argument either way.
Even though he had some losses, I have to go with Benn because his best wins came against guys that were in their prime. Slappy's career is a f'n farce.
I think they are about even if I'm honest. Calzaghe has his 0, but Benn took on all comers - though he lost to Malinga and Collins twice at the *** end of his career, I think everyone knows why that was the case. Prime Benn has a win over Malinga and would have destroyed Collins
Kessler was undefeated in 40 odd fights and 2 time world champ. Yet he wasnt even in p4p top 10. That says everything about him to me, good but not that good.
A brief and good assessment of Calzaghe's resume. Some of these not-so-objective American "boxing fans" should take note.
I don't think the old nationality thing is applicable here though, it is after all a discussion between two British boxers.
in a head to head match up i feel benn would of walked into a windmill and lost in a decision or a late tko. but resume benn is ahead.
yeah but what made benn a star was his reinvention of himself when he fought in the U.S. somthing that gave benn alot more credabilty over eubank to the american fan base.
