Benn or Eubank ...

Benn was my fave but Eubank was superior.. there was never a more exciting fighter than Benn, even Tyson.. he shocked the world against Barkley and McClellan, both were more feared than even Tyson..

Eubank won all his big fights (Benn, Watson X2, Roch, Wharton) in amazing fashion whereas Nige lost most of his big fights (Watson, Eubank, Collins X2).. Collins, Calz and Carl werent big fights for Eubank, Collins was supposed to be just another fight..

As I mention he fought them all, he always entertained. He proved this with the Anything Eu can do tour. He destroyed Sherry; he destroyed Mal...

Anyway he was without peers; fighting everyone and beating everything put in front of him.

And when he ripped up his BBB of C licence after the Barkley fight with Mendy standing there, he had come from the USA to the UK in a matter of minutes, he was that good!

 

Eubank fought who? Bums compared to who he should have fought.

Without peers? Beating everything in from of him? RJJ and Calzaghe disagree!

 

You are the one who suggested Benn fought and beat everyone; I was trying to stick up for you!

 

RJJ at his peak was one of the best ive ever seen.

I likes both benn and eubank a lot and both were very very good fighters and did a lot for brit boxing

 

Thing is no one has ever fought all the best and everyone. Any fighter that someone likes is accused as a ducker, coward etc by others on here ( not saying you ). Its sad that most on this forum are so negative towards boxers insteas of appreciating it

 

All the parents loved Tyson/Benn.. I was always more fascinated with Eubank/Naz/Lennox.

 

Benn because I loved his style

 

Before Benn and Eubank I loved watching mcguigan because it was always a big event and his dad would sing Danny boy in the ring before it started etc

This was about first time football style chants would happen at boxing as well

I remember turning on a the TV once not aware a mcguigan fight was on live

I heard fans chanting "here we go, here we go, here we go" and I wondered which football teams were playing - then it clicked it was mcguigan fans

Then came the benn/eubank era etc

And then Naz

Looking back they were all great but possibly Naz the most exciting and entertaining of the lot for me

 

Benn

 

Eubank and Benn were peculiar. In boxing, usually you get loose guys who box as loose fighters and tighter guys who box as tight fighters, to counteract a tighter or looser opponent, respectively, and vice-versa.

Eubank was a tight guy trying to box loose, and Benn a looser guy trying to box tight, and it made for quite awkward-looking fights against eachother to be honest, as it was Eubank forced to lead for being naturally tighter in the tense stand-offs, and Benn having to usually go through moves first prior to throwing (a more forced/unnatural tight style); it kind of saw Eubank miss due to Benn's almost-unintentional moves prior to throwing, and Benn then clipping him with a counter around the ear, kidney, liver, or back off the head or just loading to solar plexus, and then Eubank, the more naturally tight, able to strike back with a flurry and out-work Benn himself (the seeming-aggressor). Strange.

Eubank it must be said boxed much better (immaculate, in fact) when trying to be tight on the night (for a year or so pre-Benn, Jarvis, Essett, Wharton, Thompson x 2), slipping inside etc and Benn looked more at home when letting his hair down so to speak and having fun in there (Barkley, for a couple of years post-Eubank, Collins x 2).

Benn was more athletically gifted, but Eubank was better-schooled and a better thinker.
