Benn destroyed Barkley at middle despite being rocked in their exciting one rounder in `89 but both men went on to improve on their performances that night at higher weights, Barkley was far more impressive v Hearns a few years later at 175, he tried to use the same tactics against Toney at 168 but failed, having said that would those tactics have worked on Benn at 168, Benn won the WBC title at super middle in `92 what would have happened had he fought Barkley then and would Barkley have been a more difficult opponent at the weight than G-man was?
Benn would still have won and by early vicious ko .Benn would always get up for a challenge and he admitted he was shitting himself facing Barkley ,he'd go straight for the kill again .
You might right but there were fighters down the years near this weight class that could have won toe to toe with Benn and there were plenty of fighters that could take the punche he threw at 168 aside the shot that he knocked Sherry out with.
I think Benn still gets him but it takes longer. Benn's stoppage over Barkley was the result of a three knockdown rule and not a 10-count. A more mindful Barkley extends Benn late.
