i just searched for Benn v. Barkley after an ESPN.com article ranked it as one of the top five one-rounders ever. definitely entertaining. but in the process i also noticed that Benn v. McClellan is now on youtube, the full fight (in six parts). i had only ever seen highlights before. good lord the referee is favoring Benn. his actions in round one make Cortez look like the Muhammed Ali of refereeing. it actually physically makes me mad to watch him hold back McClellan for no reason....especially since maybe gerald's life turns out a lot different if he gets a first round KO! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZ9yRbrKLxw&feature=related
I watched that fight in my mother's kitchen as a kid. Won't watch it again. Was a great fight though. A great fight.
I can't bring myself to watch this fight again either, just knowing how it turned out for McClellan. Certainly one of the saddest moments in boxing history.
Unless he planned to retire after the Benn fight, there's nothing changing about that. McClellan (in a classic case of hindsight being 20/20) was already showing signs of a mental decline, even Manny Steward admits that now. Slowed down blinking, constant head aches during training camp, trouble sleeping...it was a matter of when not if.
Thanks for the clip great fight, even though im glad Benn won that ref sucked balls:roll: he was obviously stalling to help Nigel to get thru the 1st round, and Mcclleans corner should have stopped the fight sooner, dumbasses should have known that blinking fighter is nuerologically (spelling) in danger..
I haven't seen the whole fight, does he noticeably start blinking rounds before he ends up stopping himself?
meh, got it on dvd. although the ITV promo for the benn-g-man charity dinner a few years ago is on YT and pretty good viewing.
Watched it live at the time, thought it was awesome, and then McClellan fell. Really don't want to watch it again. Eubank-Watson II was an awesome fight as well but I've never seen it again for the same reasons.
He shouldn't have even been in the ring by that time - he was already starting to show health problems prior to the fight. These days he wouldn't have passed the prefight examination.
I use to have this fight the orginal version I taped off TV at the time on VHS. I have seen this fight countless times - I use to watch it regularly.
