what the nipples are you on about? seriously, the mythology about this fight that seems to evolve every time it's brought up is astonishing.

**** me, what a champion Benn was man. Hardcore. I havent seen the whole thing in 6 years and im astonished. Absolute top draw stuff from both of them. Ref was a bit high strung but he was French after all. But regardless an epic war where Benn showed exactly what he's all about and why most dearly love him.

 

I was 13 at the time, think it was the 1st fight I watched live on TV and I've never looked back. Most exciting thing I've ever seen. I agree Benn was lucky in 1st round, McClennan was a phenomenal puncher, but it says so much about Benn that he was able to come back and slug it out. It tops his wins over DeWitt and Barkley in my eyes, really puts him up there as one of the best Brits ever. I refuse to watch it again as well though. It's OK watching these things at the time as then it's a competitive match, watching it in retrospect is wrong I think as you are then knowingly watching a man becoming permenantly damaged.

 

Yeah, the ref. failed to control the fight. Benn pretty much rabbit punched McClellan at will in the clinch.

 

This fight one was of the most brutal ever, a must watch.

Do some of you wear blinkers permanently or just for this fight, **** me you go with the consensus american view without actually analysing the fight. Yes the referee was a bit over anxious but in what big fight are they ever not? Benn won fair and square, get over it.

 

He was never the same again after this fight - what it took out of him I wouldn't like to think about!

A cold blooded killer like McClellan actually deserved more than he got, in my honest opinion. He was a sick piece of ****.
