I actually can't wait for Hearn to sell this.. "former world title challenger who went the distance with a prime Pacquaio" He won't mention that was 7 years ago, the sell will be incredible
I know when we were thinking of an exciting fight next none of us were thinking of Avanesyan. Or anyone else active in the top 20. We were all thinking of Algieri This is the competitive high level prime opponent we all actually wanted for Benn
It's a step up from Benn's previous opponents and it's a continous improvement of opponent by Benn in each fight. That said it's a dissapointing opponent despite this, for the sole reason of "it will a legit top 10 opponent next" talk from Benn and Hearn which clearly Algieri isnt.
The biggest problem with this fight is that people actually listen to Hearn when he's in full salesman mode and get carried away. Benn was never in a million years fighting a Porter, Broner or Avenesyan. Their names were only whispered to get people associating Benn with them. It will be 3 more fights at least before Benn goes in with a real, live opponent.
When Eddie said it'd be a top 10 opponent he didn't say from which year. He's gone back to 2014 on BoxRec.
“Of course Algeri will be well known to the UK fans, after his devastating victory over top ranked hometown hero, Tommy Coyle.”
This is a laugthable fight Chris has been semi retired for years, part time chef, commentater this has cash out everyone goes happy all over it
Hearn - Benn only 1 or 2 fights from fighting the top guys in division. Then Hearn: Benn needs another fight before fighting the European Champion lol.
It's taken longer than it should have but I think everyone has finally realised Hearn and Matchroom are full of shyte.
Not a big fan of Conor Benn I find him proper cringe in his interviews especially post fight ones and even though he is improving he is miles away from world class but hearn knows this. I don't see a problem with the fight to be honest there is no need to rush his career he has had limited amateur fights and still learning on the job, everybody wants him to jump in with fighters well above his level but why? Let him develop at a normal speed and he may make a decent career out of it. Hearn knows this and is basically doing to the casuals what he did with joshua, he is giving Benn names but fighters well past their best but selling it to mugs who know nothing about boxing. Hearn is trying to turn Benn into his next big josh!!! I suppose one saving grace is you dont get really fat Mexican welterweights!!!!
I like Conor but ffs..... you can't be calling out the Shawn Porters of this world then following it up with Granados and Algieri lol Hearn is on record years ago taking the **** saying that Algeiri can't punch... now he's trying to sell us the fight with Benn ? This to me stinks of them keeping Benn away from punchers. Completely swerved Avanesyan lol
